Magee Womens Hospital of UPMC Hospital
I had a very good first impression of her. I had serious doubts about the surgery until my initial visit with Dr. Courcoulas. Where she strait out told me all that I would go through and how it would benefit me. She also has great nurses who has also answered any questions I had. Sometimes I have had long waiting times at an appointment. I think that I had made the best choice in picking a surgeon, even though she was the only surgeon I talked to.
I meet Dr. Courcoulas on Oct 1999 and I knew she was the Doctor for me. She meet me with a smile and answers. I came to her office with questions and needing more information on this life change. She answered each question that I asked her and took make sure I understood each answer.
Her office staff was kind and took as much time as with me while I was making my arrangements. It is a little harder to make arrangement out of town.
My surgery went well and Dr. Courcoulas was there each day while I was in the hospital and the after care has been great. The night that I came home I had to call her twice and she returned my calls each time and told me I was going to be fine that everything was going okay. But if I needed to call her again to fell free to call.
My aftercare has been going really good too. I went 2 weeks after surgery and then 1 month for awhile but now she is letting me go on my own 2 months at a time now. I also know that she is only a phone call away if I need her.
I had actually ment her in 1986 when she was a first year surgical resident at Montifiore hospital where i was working as a RN in the surgical ICU. At that time i thought she was an excellent surgeon and a caring person. I did not realize the connection untill i saw her and i am quite pleased. The staff has taken care of all details. They even got me involved with a reshearch study paying $50.00 a one hour visit pre/post op.
She really emphasized after care and sent me to an excellent dietitian. Risks, although i do hope to have a lap, where explained in detail. I give her a 10/10. She has both skill and bedside manner but if i had to choose i go with competence, after all i'm not going to sleep or live with her.
I found her to be completely professional and I felt she really was in my corner and would go the distance with me. Her office staff is also incredibly helpful. She went over the risks of surgery with me. I also had to meet with a nutritionist before surgery. I found that to be one of the best appointments I have ever had in all my life. I feel ready to do this change and I feel like I have a team behind me making sure this goes well.
Dr. Courcoulas was wonderful!!!!!!! She is very soft spoken and right to the point. She was wonderful to me after surgery in the hospital. She was very personable and asked about my personal life as well. To me, being personable makes a big difference and that she is!!!! Her staff is personable as well and the hospital was great. There is noting I can say I didn't like about her.
Her aftercare program seems wonderful....every two weeks for a month and then monthly for a year. She works with each patient on an exercise program and gladly gives you her phone number to contact her. She was very upfront and honest with me on all the surgerical risks. I give her a 10 ten times over!!!!!!
DON'T USE THIS SURGEON!!!! There is no psychological before or after care. There is no after care period. This surgeon does not keep up on the latest information about this surgery. This is in litigation.
I would rate this surgeon as dispicable.
I was unable to keep ANYTHING down after the surgery. NOTHING. I suffered severe thiamine deficiency and am permanently brain damaged. I would rather be fat.
