JFK Medical Center Hospital
My surgeon was very nice and explained everything I needed to know, his staff was also very helpful, no many how many times I called with questions, they got right back to me. Linda, the nurse that explain and runs the class was great, his office manager Sid was also very helpful. I look foward to my surgery on 8/9 and the follow up visit with Dr Abkin.
My first impression of Dr. Abkin was that he seemed like a nice guy, very knowledgeable. His office staff is very busy, but very very friendly. Once I had my surgery, I thought he was the greatest thing! Not only is he extremely knowledgable, but he doesnt get frustrated with all your little concerns and worries (because believe me, Im a worry wart.) My surgery went great and when I saw him in the hospital during my stay, he was helping me with things that a nurse would normally help you with, like helping me to the bathroom, and getting back in the bed.
I would recommend him to anyone!
Advanced Lapriscopic Surgeons w/ Dr. Alexander Abkin is who did my surgery of Florham Park, NJ. He is a splendid surgeon and spoken of only in kind, trusty words and known to be one of the "best" bariatric surgeons here in the Northwest United States!
So, all the mattered to me was his spectacular surgical competence.
Their office is friendly, courteous, helpful and handles so many cases that they know all the ins and outs and are very professional! They know EVERYTHING there is to know about the surgery!!!!!
My surgery went perfectly and the day I was to be released from the hospital three of the surgeons came to visit me.
I am so thankful for Dr. Abkin and his staff!
I was originally going to go with a different Surgeon but he wasn't in my network. The best thing that ever happened was just that. I found Dr. Abkin by some people I knew that went through his office. from my first visit I felt comfortable and confident he was going to take care of me. He was very down to earth and explained thing in plain english, not Dr's lingo. When you call his office a live person answers the phone. You don't have to push a million buttons
I will be seeing Dr. Abkin for the first time tomorrow. I am looking forward to meeting him, I have read his Curriculm Vitae and have reviewed many of his patients comments. I already have a wonderful first impression. His office staff was wonderful, professional, efficient and especially Josephine, I can't tell you enough about how wonderful it was speaking with her.
I met Dr. Abkin today April 7, 2005. He is wonderful, he sounded great on paper, but the paper just doesn't do the justice to the physiciain. He was just as great in person if not better. I found him to be kind, considerate, to the point type of person. I was right on time and so was Dr. Abkin.
He reviewed everything with me, we discussed various different subjects regarding surgery and my surgery was scheduled.
I had the pleasure of meeting Josephine also today and she is dynamic. My surgery is scheduled for April 26th. I am just so impressed with this physicians pracatice as a whole. They are unremarkable each and every person that is working there.
I have another appointment next week for the preop patient meeting which lasts for a few hours. I was informed it is very detailed. I think it is wonderful.
My first impression of Dr Abkin was a good one. He was compassionate and funny at the same time. My impression of him hasn't changed although I haven't seen him since my hospital stay. I would describe his office staff as friendly and personable. I don't have anything negative to say about Dr. Abkin. I think future patients should know that he is an honest guy with a good sense of humor. I didn't really talk to him about aftercare because he wasn't the doctor that I have been seeing after my surgery. The appointments that I make do not coincide with his schedule so I see another doctor in his office. The other doctor that I see stresses aftercare with great concern. He tells me to make sure that I get enough protein and stay hydrated. Dr. Abkin and Dr. Bertha advised about the risks of surgery via an orientatin meeting. They advised of the procedure and the risks involved with the procedure. They were also very candid about their mortality rate. Overall I would rate Dr. Abkin as a class A doctor. I think that his surgical competence is a little better than the bedside manner only because I was in the hospital and in pain, everyone was getting on my nerves. Dr. Abkin did however advise the staff to help ease my pain by changing my medication.
Dr Abkin had me at HELLO! Yes I know I am sucker for blue eyes and an accent, but his warmth and concern for me surpassed his looks by a long shot. He took a long time to answer my fiance and my questions. Let me tell you we had a lot of them. We came armed with pages and pages. Dr Abkin said he was impressed with our reserch and knowledge and would prefer us over somone who didnt know as much. (SO STUDY UP)
I also watched the live webcast on the Hospital webpage and watching Dr. Abkin perform the actual procedure helped ease my concerns as well.
I just hope the drugs dont get the best of me, and I say something stupid before I go under the day of my surgery. My mom tells me, When Dr Abkin comes in the room I turn into a wide eyed school girl (brite red cheeks and all) with a grin from ear to ear.
Over all... From his reputation and the reserch I have done, My family and I feel Dr Abkin is a great choice.
I didn't meet Dr. abkin at the informational session, as he was not able to attend it. However, I chose him from personal recommendations. This first time I met him was at my pre-op appt. He was professional, confident, caring, and had a good sense of humor. He went over all of the risks of surgery and emphasized the need for aftercare. I had a lot to do with his staff and colleagues because before I was scheduled for surgery, I needed my gallbladder taken out. As this was over the Christmas holiday, Dr. Abkin was away on vacation. I dealt with two of his colleagues. Dr. Pupkova did the gallbladder surgery and follow-up with that and she was really terrific - caring, extremely competent, just wonderful. I have also found the staff to be extremely helful. At one point I was going to not do the bypass, and Dr. Abkin called me and spent a lot of time with me, going over the chances of my success without the surgery and listening to my concerns. Also, after the surgery (which went very well)when I got home I was in some pain that I didn't understand and Dr. Abkin called me twice over the weekend and spent time with me over the phone, explaining to me what was going on. I give him a great rating, both for surgical competence and for his manner with patients. The only negative is that when he needs to be seen for aftercare, there are a lot of people to see him, and sometimes there can be a wait. Other than that I would recommend him unreservedly as an excellent surgeon who is committed and caring.
My first impression of Dr. Abkin was that he was very caring. He is well spoken and knowledgeable. He gave me and my husband time to ask all of our questions, and he answered them thoroughly. His office was quite busy, they were nice, but I did have to wait a while before seeing Dr. Abkin. I didn't mind the wait, because I felt fortunate to be there. At this point there is nothing that I could say negative about my experience with Dr. Abkin or his staff. He emphasized aftercare as being very important and the key to losing weight and maintaining weight loss.
