East Ridge Hospital Hospital

Nurse Cherry McDonald was the best nurse I had during my stay. Upon being moved to my room she was checking the boots that were supposed to have been on my legs to prevent clotting, she found out that some other nurse had rigged up something to simulate the boots. She went and brought the supervisor into my room to view this and then found and put the boots on my legs like should have been in the first place. She was the sweetest nurse who made me feel like I was her only patient.

I had very attentive care from my nurses and the staff. They were generally knowledgeable about my surgery (RNY Lap) and the care needed. I was given clear instructions about what to do (walking and breathing in particular). When I needed help and called my nurses were there within 30 seconds. I don't know if it is always like this, but my stay was incredible. Even so, people seem to come in to take blood and vitals exactly when I've just fallen asleep! But that happens everywhere.

On my 2nd night post op, there was a woman in the room next to mine that had a lap band and was vomiting all night. I could hear her through the wall. It was so bad I called the nurses station because I was afraid that she was not getting any help. Of course they had been treating her but she was so sick. I felt so sorry for her. Then my own IV infiltrated wich is very painful. It took 3 days for my hand to look normal again. I would advise anyone to stay at this hospital. Eveyone there is very nice. It is very comfortable because it is so small. I dont think I would have gotten the personal attention I got if I had been at a large hospital. Also the bariatric coordinator was wonderful. she gave me samples and lots of good info. she also encouraged me to attend the support group at Eastridge.

Eastridge is a very caring hospital. You are definitely a patient and not a number. Your questions are answered in terms you can understand the staff is great. I had to travel over 100 miles to go to this hospital but after being a patient there I would have traveled over 200 miles to get the kind of care I received from pre op to post op and
release. Rate this hopspital AAAAA+

Everyone there was very supportive. One of the nurses from the OR had the surgery 4 months ago with him and has lost 90 lbs....It was great to see such support of the surgery and Dr. Rutledge.
Only negative thing was that my day shift nurse "Betty" disregarded my Dr.'s orders stating i COULD have 1 ounce of ice chips per hour post op. I had tonsillitis and my throat was killing me--she refused to give me ice like my dr ordered. I even complained to the nurse manager about her because she was hateful to me. The night shift staff were angels!

I enjoyed the size of the hospital and the fact that most of my nurses have had this type of surgery so they knew what I was going through. The only few complaints I have is that the nurses/assistants did not come in very often (every 4-6) hours unless I called. I could have fallen and hurt myself and they would never have known. Plus, twice the day shift nurse said that she gave me one of my meds and she didn't so I had to wait twice as long to receive them. Last, I have severe asthma and they didn't even notice that my lips were purple from lack of oxygen when they brought me into my room. My mother and husband had to make them put oxygen on me.
