I thought Dr. DeSimone was kind of dorky and nervous, but he turned out to be a wonderful Doctor, who is very attentive and knowledgeable.

I found Dr. Griffith to be very comforting, making a somewhat stressful situation easy to process. Dr. Giffith made sure to let me know that at any time in this process, I could contact him to chat. Thank you, Dr. Griffith!

I started seeing Dr. Cunningham at University for my weight loss surgery. I stayed in thier program for about 10 (which is a very good program) Dr. Cunningham is great. I was totally approved already by my insurance company-I met all of the criteria and was mentally prepared.
I actually purged all of my "fat clothes" in April and just saved a couple of things for my recovery period.
I was scheduled to have my surgery on April 6, 2005 with Dr. Cunningham, however that night my husband woke me up apologizing because he was having a heart attack!!!
Of course we rushed him to the hospital, where by the grace of God, he recieved stents and was home in 3 days. He had a triple bypass 10 years ago. So I called the University Hospital OR and tell them I will not make the surgery because of Henry's heart attack. When I talked to Dr. Cunninghams office they were booking surgery into November 2005, so I would have to wait.
Now I truly believe that God knew much better than I (of course He did) what was to happen in my life. I work at Community General with Dr. Desimone, and we had been talking for at least 2 years about him getting the surgery approved at our hospital, and him getting the training. We kidded back and forth about my being his first and I kept him updated on my progress with Dr. Cunningham's office, nutritional info, and everything else.
When I saw Dr. Desimone again, we talked more seriously about my surgery, I mean Dr. to patient talk, we both agreed I was ready and he was ready and I got into his first group of surgeries on May 9, 2005. The rest is history. As all of his patients will tell you, his office staff, Yvonne, Terry Kelly, and all of the bariatric staff are outstanding.
I didn't mean to wait a year to update, I guess I am still in awe of what has happened in the last 11 months.
I started my journey at 263 pounds, lost 25 during my visits to Dr. Cunningham, and went into Community General with my surgery with Dr. Desimone at 250 pounds. Today I stay between 145 and 150 pound, and have been maintaining this weight for 2-3 months.
I hope to update my information by backtracking my journey, in hope that it will help anyone else pre or post op. Feel free to contact me.
God Bless us all
Steph

Chairs in the waiting room, and the office were not equipped for obese people....He was a very nice and caring person who seems like he supports WLS greatly.

Dr. Griffiths asked me thought-provoking questions like, "If you're a comfort eater, what will you turn to for comfort when you can no longer turn to food?"

He was very nice and professional. He explained to me that he is new at this surgery, and didn't try to hide it. He sounded very confident. He has been a surgeon for 14 years. His office staff is nice, and courteous...I think the most important thing to know about him is that he has not been in this type of surgery for a long time, but I feel confident in him. I think that I will have great results with this doctor.

He was wonderful. His information meetings are great, he is very friendly, and he visited me every day after my surgery. A very supportive mand with great bedside behavior. And Yvonne from the office is a peach!! Without her, I never would have been able to get this far!!!

I like Dr Desimone. He is a great, confidant surgeon. His office staff is helpfull and happy. I was put at ease from the first moment I was there. I did not wait long in the waiting room or in the room itself. He answered all my questions and never made me feel silly about what I wanted to know. I even made him giggle..he is a really nice guy.
