Their office is the best !

At first I thought Dr. Borao was a hot shot younger surgeon, but I knew that he was good at what he did so I felt comfortable trusting him. Dr. Borao is a laproscopic surgeon who does WLS, not a WLSurgeon who happens to do the laproscopically. His offce staff couldn't get any better if they tried, which they do. Debbie is the program director (it is a little discouraging at first because she is tiny, but you will quickly learn that she really does understand what you are going through and she will give you all the support in the world). Laura is the office manager (she will fight the insurance companies tooth and nail for your case, and is REALLY good at what she does, she keeps the stress off you, I got denied for the wrong surgery, then approved for the wrong surgery, all within 2 weeks of my surgery date, and Laura took care of EVERYTHING). Dr. Goldberg is the psychologist in the practice (you don't HAVE to use him, but I did, he is great at getting into your head and not making you feel like less of a person because you have this disease). Sam is the nutritionist for the practice (again, you don't HAVE to use her, but I would reccomend it, she is REALLY great at giving new suggestions and helping you find food if you can't, she also understands that we all need a little bit of our favorites once in a while and will give you ways to work them into a healthy eating plan). The practice is so well rounded and has a monthly FREE support group at the hospital, it really is a great way to get more info and learn more abou the practice, Debbie, Dr. Goldberg, and Sam are usually there and always answer any questions that they can anwer. Dr. Borao only has 1 day a week that he sees bariatric patients, so if you make an appointment, plan on waiting. However, he is so good I would have no problem waiting 8 hours if I had to (the wait is NEVER that long, but I wouldn't mind if it was). I had a weird complication (that Dr. Borao couldn't have predicted if he tried), and he gave me his undivided attention (including a 6 hour surgery at 8pm on a Saturday night), after the second surgery he made sure I called him, and saw him AT LEAST once a week for almost 2 full months, I have NEVER had anyone take such good care of me. He made time and told his staff that he didn't care what else was going on, they had to fit me in the schedule. He really does take care of his patients. I know a patient of his who had the surgery about 4 years ago now and she saw him on the street and he remembered every detail of her surgery, it really is amazing how great of a surgeon he is, and how great his bedside manner is. If I had this to do all over again, I would go with Dr. Borao every single time. He is AMAZING.

Dr. Borao ROCKS! When I first met him, he was friendly, confident, listened to all my concerns, and was reassuring. I knew then and there that he was the surgeon for me!
rnrnHis office staff is quite friendly, and Laura works her tush off to get all the paperwork through...she's amazing!
rnrnAftercare is essential, and there is a structured program both pre-and post- operatively. No silly hoops to go through - don't get me wrong, there was alot to do, but it was all necessary, and made me feel completely sure that wls was the way for me to go.
rnrnDr. Borao ran into ALOT of trouble when he got inside my torso, but he was a trooper, stuck it out, and cleared up some previous pre-existing issues that we didn't know were there (lots of scar tissue). Probably saved my life. I was surprised that he didn't just take a look inside, say, \"well, this is a little more than we bargained for\", and close me up. Nope. He did it all. I can't tell you (or him) how grateful I am. I can't recommend him enough!

I had gastric bypass surgery March 27,2007 and is currently 54lbs lighter!! My first impression with Dr. Borao was a pleasent one. He was very professional, and explained everything that was intailed with the surgery. I have only grown to like him even more with every office visit. The office staff is amazing!!! Laura is a doll.. I have nothing at all negative to say about him or the office. Anyone who is concidering using Dr. Borao should know he is the sweetest Dr. with exceptional bed side manners, also he is very careing and compassionate, something you don't find very often in a Dr. Dr. Borao makes it very clear you must take your vitimins and make sure you get your protien. He also recommends you attend the support group meetings. He went over what risks are involved with gastric bypass surgery. Overall I was very satisfied with him and the office staff and I would recommend him to anyone who is concidering the surgery.

What do say to someone who has saved your life? Who has given you the tool to stop the yoyo dieting as well as feeling in control of your food portions? Dr Borao is truly my guardian angel and hero. I was suppose to have my gastric bypass @ another hospital. But the doctors there split up the practice and I was left with finding another doctor.
Dr Borao and his staff @ Monmouth Medical Center were very compasionate, informative and most of all caring. I could never thank them for all they have done to help me get reapproved with a new surgery date. and without being stressed out about this.
As far as the after care goes, I feel the program @ Monmouth is much more rounded because they have the psychologist there @ every meeting. I feel this is very important because he there to answer any questions to any one @ any stage of the program before, during and of course after.

My first impression of Dr. Borao was that no Dr. has ever taken the time to listen to my concerns like Dr. Borao has. He did not talk down to me. As time passesI am only more impressed and grateful he is my surgeon. His staff is the best! Caring, kind, knowledgeble What i like best about Dr. Borao is his ability to put a nervous patients fears at ease. Future patients should know they will not regret going to see Dr. Borao There is a structured after care program and a wonderful monthly support group where a patient can form bonds with others who share your same concerns The risks of surgery were addressed first and foremost. On a scale of 1-10 Dr. Borao is a 12. Surgical competence and bedside manner are equal to me.
