Chapman Medical Center (COE) Hospital

Overall my experience with Chapman Medical Center was positive. The COE designation was a definite factor in selecting it. The pre-op meeting with Joyce prepared me for what to expect during the hospital stay and the resources available after surgery. I was monitored closely during my entire stay and felt very safe. Because of the catheter, nasogastric tube, oxygen tube, blood saturation monitor, IV and compression socks, I wasn't as mobile as I expected to be. The nighttime noise level seemed high to me, consisting of voices and banging sounds in the hallway. Somewhat annoying but far from being a deal breaker in recommending Chapman Medical Center. This is a no frills building with a caring staff that works hard to get you well and home safely.

I was very upset upon arrival they took me to my room. My roommate was having some type of Mexican feista in there with a ton of Mexican food, my favorite food actually. I turned to the head nurse and said you can't be serious. You put someone who can not eat in a room with all this food, are you out of your mind? I almost left the hospital. But I stayed and another nurse came in and said we are moving you to a private room. That was that.

If I had it to do over, I'd probably still go to Chapman Medical Center. It was very clean, and the rooms were well appointed. Some of the nurses and nurses assistants were weak, but I think that's par for the course in a very difficult and underpaid field. If you need to choose a hospital, I'd actually recommend this one, but don't expect a day-spa like experience, because it's not going to happen.

I was told to check-in at 8 a.m. but didn't get into my room until 9:30 a.m. due to an over booked schedule and understaffing. The clerk at the desk was rude and lacked compassion.
Once in my room things were better, however responses to nurse call buttons at times had me waiting over 45 minutes for assistance, again due to overcrowding and understaffing. I was not pleased with my stay there. I know my bill will be the same whether they give good service or not. Pity.
