Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Hospital
Obesity wing was great, but heart wing did not know how to handle gastric bypass surgery patient in correct manner. I was transferred here after I was not given needed medication in obesity wing. Big error! by nursing staff!!!
Cedar Sinai has a great bariatric program and I was treated like a king. The room was great, the staff was very friendly and helpful in the bariatric unit. I was very satisfied with all that happened in the bariatric unit except... except... I WAS NOT GIVEN MY DAILY MEDICATIONS AND THAT RESULTED IN AN UNEXPECTED EXTRA DAY IN THE CARDIAC UNIT. This unit is good too, although I felt the nursing staff was a little on the grumpy side and didn't really want to help me get through this.
I also think it is riduculous that "PATIENTS" have to pay for parking and at $14.00 per day. We bought a $30.00 week pass after finding out we would be staying longer. And then found out you have to park out in the "booney" parking lots. The parking lot attendant in the South Tower was NOT going to let us out with paying the required daily fee or a total of $32.00. We were told we were ok to park in the South tower. So better bring your checkbook and pay the piper!!!
I hope I won't have to come here anytime in the near future. I hate LA and all the business and traffic and hustle and bustle. Just give me the laid back life of the Southern California Mountains.
I had a deluxe single room which was bigger than my apartment and it looked like a 5-star hotel room with a beautiful view. I could have had a party in that room. I did get lucky. Not all of the rooms are that big. I did have to wait 2 hours to get a room after getting out of recovery, but it was worth the wait. They give you practically everything you need: toothbrush, toothepaste, mouthwash, lotion, powder, soap, slippers, nice towels and face clothes. There was even a fancy shower in the room.
The nursing staff and caregivers at Cedars are WONDERFUL! I was in a beautiful, big room in 8 SouthEast, and the staff there was so considerate, kind and caring. The nurses and assts. ALWAYS came at the shift change and introduced your new caregivers to you; the hospital FOCUSES on continuity of care and COMMUNICATION among the staff. The private rooms are BIG, beautiful, CLEANED 2X A DAY, (at first I thought I had been mistakenly placed in the 'celebrity wing', but the 8th floor is where most bariatric patients are sent!) and the atmosphere is quiet and peaceful, like an art gallery; in fact, the walls of all 8 floors are lined with beautiful art and prints, which makes walking around like a trip through to the local art museum! All my visitors were JEALOUS! The nurses and their assts. only cover 6 patients per shift, so I got plenty of attention. The only downside is the parking: very limited and LA CRAZY! My ride home spent 30 minutes trying to find a place to park at the South Tower. Parking is also expensive; the Beverly Center parking across the street on the east side may be a better bet for visitors. But make no mistake: this hospital is FANTASTIC! I hated to leave!
