Atlanta Medical Center (COE) Hospital
The staff when I checked into pre-op were so wonderful. The nurse got my IV on the first try and I am very difficult to stick. One I was ready and they took me to OR holding. I had a wonderfully sweet male nurse who made me very at ease. They made sure I was warm and comfy, Gave me socks for my feet. When I got to the OR I was impressed. They made sure my lumbar back was supported and I was confortable before knocking me out. When I work up I was in my room. I don't remember the recovery room at all. Though my family says I was there for almost 4 hrs.
Once I got to the floor the nurses were very sweet, very helpful. My family came in to be with me from out of town. They brought them blankets juice and snacks. My doctor ordered pain meds every 4 hrs and though they were prompt with bring them the first day was rough. I was out the bed and walking and my nurses were impressed that they did not have to ask. I was also up to bathroom as well to pass gas. I had a urinary catheter the first 24 hrs.
They also brought me plenty of ice chips. My stay at Atlanta Medical Center was excellent. I never needed to ask for anything. I would highly recommend them. One of my nurses was also a bariatric patient as well.
Thankfully I had to remain in the Atlanta Medical Center for just one night, then I was released. The staff was very polite and concerned with my well being . The only down side if I had to find one is the room was a little cramped, but I would rather stay in a cramped room with a professional, calming and concern staff that In a large room with the staff looking down or up their nose at me like they have a bad allergy..(lol). Thanks for everything.
It is hard enough to be morbidly obese without feeling like an alien in a hospital that is designed for the average sized person. I immediately felt comfortable when I went in for my pre-op testing and was given a gown that was too big. It is comforting to feel "normal" in an environment that is understandably stressful. Everyone at AMC from the security guards at the main entrance to the nurses and technicians that are treating you are all so helpful. A security guard walked me to the area I was looking for without even being asked. He saw I looked lost and offered to show me the way. People just go above and beyond and it makes all the difference in your perceptions of the hospital as a whole.
