    When you have tried to lose weight, but have been unsuccessful in your attempts, the surgical practice of Dr. Wes Turton can help you make a lasting change, beginning with bariatric surgery, and put you on a path to a healthier new you.   Dr. Wes Turton established the bariatric surgery program at West Georgia Health in 2008 and was the first surgeon in West Georgia to perform LAP-BAND® surgery. He currently serves as Medical Director for the West Georgia Health Bariatric Surgery program, which was recently designated as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence® by the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery. In addition, he was one of the first surgeons in South Carolina to perform advanced laparoscopic surgery, and one of the first surgeons in Georgia to perform Single Incision Laparoscopic (SILS) gallbladder surgery.   Dr. Turton completed his internship and residency in surgery at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Ga. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons. He is also actively involved in the Southeastern Surgical Congress, the American Society of General Surgeons, and other professional organizations. He is past president of the Moretz Surgical Society. He has served as president of the West Georgia Health medical staff and is currently the vice-chairman of the department of surgery.
