  • About Me

Dr. Tammy Lyn Kindel, Bariatric Surgeon

Dr. Tammy Lyn Kindel is the Assistant Professor of the division of general surgery and a bariatric surgeon practicing at the Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin health network. She received her medical degree from Ohio State University and completed her residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago. Her passion for science and the clinical practice of bariatric surgery led her to fellowship train in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery at the University of Nebraska. A board-certified general surgeon, Dr. Kindel also earned a PhD in Pathobiology and Molecular Medicine at the University of Cincinnati.

Dr. Kindel has a special interest in researching and studying the hormonal changes induced after bariatric surgery that are responsible for sustaining weight loss but also help to improve medical comorbidities, including Type 2 diabetes.

Dr. Tammy Lyn Kindel - The Impact of Bariatric Surgery

When I was a medical student, I had a really meaningful bariatric surgery rotation where I got to see what kind of an impact this intervention has on a patient's quality of life, their health, their longevity and it really stuck with me that I had a chance to offer someone an opportunity to improve their health for decades. That has an impact not just on the patient, but on the patient's family, their children, and their children's health. I think that's a rare thing in medicine. When I see a bariatric surgery patient in clinic, often times they have spent years of their life dealing with their obesity and dieting, trying different attempts and they have often spent many months or years in consideration of bariatric surgery before I get a chance to see them so it's really my opportunity to present the full spectrum of bariatric surgery to the patient- what it can offer, what it can't offer, and perhaps which surgical procedure is going to be the right choice for them to meet not only their weight loss goals, but also help treat their medical problems associated with obesity. - Dr. Tammy Lyn Kindel

Dr. Kindel is dedicated to surgical expertise and to making sure her patients are educated about the weight loss surgery process. She feels that a tailored treatment plan to fit the patient's needs, expectations, and associated medical issues is key to helping them meet their weight loss and health goals. She performs the Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass, the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy, and weight loss surgery revisions.
