Stephen B. Archer Bariatric Surgeon M.D.
I have been going thru the pre-op process for 4 months now, and Dr Archer and his entire staff are fantastic. They are very responsive to any questions or help I need to get thru the maze of appointments and insurance requirements. My 1st appt w/Dr Archer was very relaxed, he's got great bed side manner, more doctors could learn a lot from him and how he respects & treats his patients. He actually reads all your transfer files, follows up with questions and in my case did a 2nd Endoscopy to validate that I have a hernia that he will fix at the same time he's doing my Sleeve (yea no more GERD). If the after care (which surgery is next month) is anything like the great pre-op care, I will be more than happy with my decision to stay local in Bend and not travel to Portland or other places. Advanced Specialty Care is an excellent place to look to for your baiaritic surgery needs. PS... it's nice to see all the great reviews going back to 2003!

What can I say about Stephen Archer, MD and Advanced Specialty Care??? I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them all!
What a wonderful, compassionate group! Everyone from Dr. Archer (the dude), to Kathryn Wilson (Bariatric Coordinator and wiz at everything), to LuAnn Lehnertz(Registered Dietitian/Nurtritionist - who makes it all so easy) and Karen Campbell (Psychologist - love her - she's helping me deal with my carb addiction, amoung other things)!! Add to that the fact that they are a Center of Excellence!! Would I trust my body and life with anything less?? These people have EVERYTHING worked out. You follow what they tell you, and you cannot help but succeed. All this, and I haven't had my RNY yet (scheduled for 1/11/11). If anyone has any questions about Dr. Archer or his staff, please contact me!!

I caught Dr. Archer on a day when he was so tired he was funny. Everyone said he didn't have a sense of humor but I liked him immediately. He may not always be funny but he is good at what he does. He has been really great. He has a structured plan that keeps you fully informed. I have had zero complications and have been successful beyond my dreams. I loved the aftercare program and found it easy to understand and follow. Dr. Archer and his assistant Stephanie always answer my questions and give me positive feedback. I look forward to my visits. Dr. Archer is a skilled surgeon and his assistant Stephanie has a great bedside manner, together they are an exceptional package. Add in their office staff contact person - Karen and you will find the best service. I recommend them to everyone who asks. Even though I have to travel 150 miles one way to see him it was all worth it. He is also treating my barretts esophogus. I trust him completely.

He is very calm, understanding and helpful. He is very knowledgeable and has a great team mate helping him. The staff is always willing to help and answer questions. I can't think of one thing I didn't like about Dr. Archer. He is quick to respond when called and always readily available to see you or schedule time for you to be seen. All your aftercare is part of the package so you don't have to worry about being taken care of after surgery. The risks were explained clearly and thoroughly and all questions were answered. There was even a quiz before surgery to make sure I understood what was going to happen. With Dr. Archer and his team mate, Stephanie Granvall, both surgical competence and beside manner were above reproach. I had a minor complication during surgery but it was handled efficiently and as to date, after 18 months haven't had any issues whatsoever. Dr. Archer (and Stephanie) is my hero and I thank him from the bottom of my heart for everything he has helped me achieve.

my first impression was he is very nice and defenitaly knows his buisness.rnrnovertime i noticed that he was precoccupied with other things on his mind.rnrnhis office staff were really nice.rnrnthe least thing i liked about him is i think dr archer was very moody.rnrnhe does not have a very good sence of humor.rnrnalot about after care.rnrnhe told me about the risks and he even had you take a test on it.rnrni would rate him on a scale of 1 to 10 about a 6 1/2 .rnrni would prefer both.rn
1. Very impressed. I had a very through one on one with him after going to his lecture. he was caring and helpful and very informed.rn2. Only that he could be a bit cocky. But that could be a good thing..rn3.Excellent, caring, helpful, supportive. However I did not like his nutritionist.rn4.At some points during the presentation he seemed a little condesending.rn5. He is a an excellent surgeon with very low complications and almost no fatalities, besides being on the board for hosp. & advocates for his patients.rn6.At almost every encounter Tried to pursuade me to going gastric by pass instead of lapband.rn7.Yesrn8. Very clearly and bluntly.rn9. I choose him very carefully after researching for over a year and visiting 3 other practises.rn10. Surgical competence.
I was very impressed with my surgeon. He was very personable. I still feel that way. I cant imagine having the surgery with anyone other then Dr Archer and the great staff at ASC. Stephanie and Dora and Catherine are wonderful supportive people that I feel have gone on this journey with me. Everytime I need to speak to Dr Archer he always seems to find time for me. I had a bacteria in my intestine and Dr Archer gave me his cell number and told me to call him if I need anything. I dont know to many Dr's that would do that. His bedside manor is Amazing he visits you even when it is not his day for hospital rounds. The aftercare program is amazing also at asc we meet twice a month for a support group where we can talk about anything. We have followups with the Dr Archer and our Neutrionist Luann. I had a Dr's presentation to inform me of the risks of surgery then when you go in for your first visit they go over the risks with you again as does Luann. I would rate Dr. Archer a 10. I have refered 7 people to the office who have all had the surgery. I would have to say that both his bedside manner and surgical competence are both great. If I didnt think so I would never refer my friends..
