I was very impressed with the Center for Human Nutrition at Vanderbilt University. From day one they were extremely helpful and supportive. No matter how many questions I asked, they always had a friendly and sincere response. The first time I met with Dr. Richards, I was expecting a whole lot of questions. To my suprise, Dr. Richards was very familiar with my personal situation. This let me know that he had reviewed my files prior to meeting with me. The entire staff was great!

This is my story. I had everything lined up with the exception of procedure codes from my surgeon being all I lacked for approval. When I call for them to send this info. to my insurance, my surgeon went in the hospital himself for open heart surgery. He is an older man and will be out for a while maybe no longer performing this surgery. So, now I am going 04/18/02 to see Dr. Richards to see if I am a candiate for the surgery in their eyes! Keeping my fingers crossed!!

08-09-02 I have been home for six days now and I wanted to share some comments on Dr. William O. Richards at the Vanderbilt Clinic in Nashville, Tn. He is truely wonderful! He is straight forward-which I like. He is very professional and an excellent surgeon. He doesn't talk alot but he will answer any questions or concerns you have and he does not rush you out of his office!!! I would definitely rate him a 10! Surgical competence-10! And another thing about Dr. Richards that I find re-assuring is that he talks directly to you and your family and he has a great smile!!!!

01/11/02 Ok, This is my THIRD surgeon. Dr. Beekley can't do the surgery because the facility where he works isn't equipped to handle emergencies. Dr. Wright at Vanderbilt is only accepting patients with a BMI of over 50 and I do not qualify. NOW, Dr. William Richards at the High Risk Obesity Center at Vanderbilt had agreed to do my surgery laparscopically. I haven't met with him yet, but he's the director of laparscopic surgery at Vanderbilt and comes highly recommended. 01/15/02 Dr. Richards office called today and my first appointment with him will be Jan. 22nd. 01/22/02 I went to my appointment, but Dr. Richards was in surgery. I met with one of his assistants. He was ok. 03/04/02 Today I was approved by my insurance. 03/19/02 I'm having surgery with Dr. Richards and have NOT met him and from what I understand, I won't meet him until I'm in the OR.

Dr. Richards is very professional. The first time I saw him was for my gall bladder. I was late to my appointment, but he saw me anyway. Bonus point there! I went 6 weeks later for a follow-up and we spoke about the bypass surgery. He answered any questions I had. He seems to be an OK guy!

When I went for my consulation with Dr Richards he was gone to a meeting, so I saw one of his partners, Dr. Melvin, he was very nice and explained everything in detail. Dr. Richards has contacted me by email, after I had problems with insurance filing, and I thought that was very unusual for a Doctor. I never imagined that he would email me, but he did...Impressed me...

Dr. Richards was very thorough, and forth-right. His staff was incredibly nice and very helpful. This process so far has been pleasant with he and his staff.

Dr. Richards doesn't have much of a bed-side manner, but he is very good, or so I've been told from just about everybody. His staff, on the other hand are angels on earth, it has been my experience that inorder for a Doc. to have such a great staff they are just as great. I cann't wait to have my surgery done, I'm waiting on BCBS of TN. IT WON'T BE LONG NOW!!!!

Dr. Richards is the Dean of Laproscopic surgery at Vanderbilt Medical Center. He is an excellent surgeon

His office staff have been incredily helpful

Dr Richards is defineatly more of a technician mostly concerned with the mechanics of the surgery, but his staff and resident's are extremely helpful with aftercare issues

My surgeon is Dr. Richards @ Vanderbilt University.

My first impression of him was that he was very thorough and professional in his exam.

His office staff is terrific!

Dr. Richards is a no nonsense doctor. He's good at what he does and he wants to help.

He has a very good Clinical Nutritionist who is very involved in his after care.

Their is a structured post-op program.

He was very up front about the risks and benefits of the surgery.

TOP NOTCH!

I prefer surgical cometence to bedside manner. He can be a jerk if he chooses, but I want him to be a trained and experieince surgeon. I'm not paying him to be my friend, I'm paying him to do surgery.
