I first met Dr. Weiss laying on a table in pre-op waiting for him to perform an EGD on me prior to surgery. He came in and introduced himself and my first impression was how kind and yet professional he was. Over time my impression of him has grown even more. His office and hospital staff are knowledgable, helpful, and friendly. He has the highest of standards in care and yet is able to balance these standards with warmth and compassion towards his patients. Prior to surgery he addressed the surgical risks with me completely and fully prepared me for life after RNY. He took time in appointments to talk to me and answer my questions without making me feel rushed or confused. He showed interest for even my simplest questions and never made me feel ignorant for asking or like I was imposing on his time. He places a high emphasis on an aftercare program and his office offers lifetime structured support for patients. Overall I would say Dr. Weiss is the best! His surgical competence and bedside manner are fantastic and I am very proud to be his patient!

When I first met Dr. Weiss I was impressed with his compassion and knowledge. As I got to know him better on succeeding visits I enjoyed his ability to focus completely on me and what I needed to know during my visit. His office staff was incredible. Very professional, competent and kind. Because of the increasing volume of patients involved in the Bassett Bariatric Program, some personal connection is lost. You need to be familiar with your own case and details in order to be specific on what you want. Dr. Weiss stresses the importance of having a good follow through and keeping vigilant on your diet. He encourages the attendance at the Bassett Bariatric Program's various support groups. He covers the risks of surgery completely and graphically and has a great deal of knowledge and skill. Although he could use some help in keeping his patients straight in his mind, (again the rising volume of patients serviced by his program is the main cause) he is a caring and competent surgeon.rn

I had my surgery in Cooperstown NY by Dr. Wayne Weiss on Nov. 19, 2002. He is an outstanding surgeon.
When I first met him I could tell he was very serious and to the point. I found/find him very easy to talk to. He explains everything and answers all questions. When I had my surgery he made many visits to see me and check on me. His secretary Jennifer is so very helpful and is alwasy quick to help any way she can.
Dr. Weiss and his team has a very structured aftercare program and as long as you follow the rules the weight will come off.
Overall I go to Dr. Weiss for any surgery he has my full trust.

My first impression of Dr Weiss was that he was a no nonsense kind of guy! He tends to talk down to his patients and makes comments that a doctor that is dealing with over weight people really should not make. However, over time I have come to respect him and he is a very caring surgeon. I had to remind myself that I was more impressed by his surgical skill than his personality. He is a "just the facts, Ma'am" kind of surgeon and he really does not have the time or patience to be anything else.
The office staff at Bassett Healthcare is second to none! What a great bunch of compassionate and caring people.
Future patients should know that Dr Weiss leaves no stone unturned. He is extremely dillignet and completes a number of tests pre-op to insure the best possible post-op for all of his patients. While some may find this time consuming, I appreciated all the pre-op work ups because I knew that Dr Weiss was ensuring the best possible outcome for me.
The after care at Bassett as a whole is not the greatest. I felt all alone when I came home from the hospital. This is being addressed from many sides. No one called to see how I was doing and my first appointment post-op did not happen until 3 weeks later. I felt that the very hands on involvement pre-op would carry over to the post-op side, but I was sad to find that it simply did not!
Dr. Weiss is a much better surgeon than a "friend". I learned to appreciate that and came to realize that I would much rather have a surgeon with his level of competence than to have a surgeon with great bedside manners. I never felt like anything bad was going to happen to me as long as Dr Weiss was performing the surgery.
I am 5 months post op now and re-reading this I can say that things have gotten much better at Bassett now. The program there just passed its one year mark and they are adding a lot of new things all the time. Dr. Weiss is still no nonsense, but I realize that he was making sure that I was as serious as I should be about this surgery and the changes it would bring to my life.

My first impression of him was that he thought everything was because of weight issues. Loose weight it fixes everything.
Overtime, my opinion of him didn't change much, but his "group" has NO understanding of a single parent. You miss 1 appt or postpone it, and you have to start over. And God help ya if you say that your son/daughter is more important because then you're kicked out of the program. They have HIGH demands pre-op, and have had MANY complications.
They have a very structed program and if you don't do everything in their way, you're out! They go over (quickly) the risks of the surgery.
OVERALL? I'd rate him fair, his staff and their program? Crappy!!!!!!!!!!
