Dr K is wonderful. Very friendly listens to what I have to say. The office staff treats me like family. The whole clinic is outstanding, would tell everyone to go to her. The aftercare is there. I havent been to the clinic like i should go due to financial reasons, but would like to change that. She told me about all the risks and what to expect with the band. Super doctor, wouldnt have gone to anyone else.

Dr. Kaniewski (Dr. K.) is very professional, very knowledgeable. She is kind and thorough. She views wls in a very healthy holistic way and has set up the program for her patients' success.
The staff is very friendly and so helpful. They all know me and my husband by name and welcome us when we come in. The nurses and medical assistants were just terrific.
Dr. K. requires a lot of pre-op testing - which is a great thing. I was able to feel confident going into surgery knowing all my challenges and strengths. She was very comprehensive as she educated and counseled me on the best surgery for me based on many factors. I appreciated how much time she spent with me.
She and her staff not only emphasize aftercare - they have set up a really terrific incentive points system so that the more aftercare meetings, appointment, weight loss, etc that the patient completes the more points you receive. You can then redeem the points for anything from a private appointment with a personal trainer or nutritionalist, to a gift certificate to GNC to even (with lots and lots of points) a tummy tuck. They have classes and support groups twice a week on Thursdays and on Saturdays.
In addition to the structured support aftercare- there is a set follow up schedule to visit the surgeon for every patient. It is quite comprehensive. They are committed to excellence and success.
I would rate Dr. K and the Institute for Bariatric Surgery a at MISH a 10. Their medical competence, holistic program, fabulous facility and kind and caring bed side manner are all top notch.
I could not be happier with my choice. Thanks Dr. K and all at IABS!!

I chose the Minimally Invasive Surgery Hospital (MISH)in Lenexa, Kansas because of the amount of information they provided me before surgery and the structured after-care program they offer after surgery. Once I had my pre-op appointment, I was able to schedule surgery the next month, however I ended up waiting 5 months because of my work schedule. During those 5 months, I was able to attend support groups and rules classes at the hospital. Because of all the preparation, I felt my transition after surgery has gone incredibly well. All the staff and doctors have been nothing but helpful, patient, and accessible to me. When you feel you need to see the doctor, an appointment can be scheduled within the next 2 days. I appreciate the fact that all fills are done under flouro so that problems can be caught early. If problems are caught early, they can be fixed without surgery. I would recommend MISH to anyone considering weight loss surgery.rn

My first impression of Dr. K. was that she was very professional and knowledgeable about the various bariatric surgeries. It seemed like she viewed it as a life-changing rehabilitative event. I felt like I was at the right place, as I wanted a 360 approach to overcome and recover from the effects of obesity.rnMy impression has not changed. I still think of her as a professional that is good at what she does.rnThe office staff at Dr. K's office is very professional and courteous.rnFuture patients should know that Dr. K. is patient and professional and cares about recovery from obesity.rnDr. K. could not emphasize enough attending seminars, paying attention to the rules, and notifying the office when there is an issue.rnThe risks of the surgery itself were explained in the paperwork that was given to me in addition to the seminar I attended. Dr. K. also mentioned possibilities of what could happen if I did not follow the instructions of aftercare.rnI would rate Dr. K. and the MISH hospital staff as professional and efficient. rnBoth surgical competence and beside manner were both good, but I was especially impressed with the surgical competence. It is always good to have a surgeon that believes they are the right person for the job and I believe that Dr. K. exudes that confidence!

My husband and I both had Lap-Band surgery by Dr K and absolutely loved her! She is very friendly and honest about what to expect. I liked that appointments are easy to get - which is a plus for me since I work during the day and have to drive over 30 minutes to get to her office! rnrnMy only negative is regarding some of the office help. The girl who answers the phone leaves a bit to be desired in the way of customer service. Not that she's awful - she's just not up to the level of Dr K and some of the other staff. She had left the day of my surgery before we could make our follow up appt (she was supposed to wait but got tired of waiting!). And when I called for our first fill appt she didn't tell me anything about not eating 3hrs prior or going back to liquids for 2 days after!rnrnBut overall I would go to this office again and have already referred some friends to see her! In one word - FABULOUS!

Dr. Kaniewski was my surgeon during the time that she practiced in the Washington, DC./Northern Virginia area. rnrnAs a surgeon, Dr. Kaniewski was a top-notch doctor. She make a great first impression and appeared to be quite well versed in the Roux-en-Y procedure that I subsequently had. She held informational seminars to educate her patients of the risks and benefits associated with gastric bypass surgery. She monthly meeting space for a long-term patient self-help group. I found Dr. Kaniewsky to be an open caring person, willing to answer any and all questions concerning gastric bypass surgery.rnrnDr. Kaniewsky repeatedly stressed the importance of structured, long-term post-operative care for gastric bypass patients. Part of her criteria for accepting me as a new patient was my willingness to follow through with a long-term care program. This is the source of some of my continuing problems that occured after surgery. rnrnDr. Kaniewsky moved her practice from Alexandria, VA to Lenexa, KS. Now that is quite a trip to make in order to attend a follow-up appointment. Dr. Kaniewsky gave only a couple of months notice of her move. She returned a copy of my medical files to me. However, what she did not do was to make arrangements for me to be seen by another bariatric surgeon for long-term follow-up care. When, I personnally contacted the many other surgeons in my area, none would accept me as a patient. (I called all of the bariatric surgeons that I could identify within 75 miles of my home.)rnrnNow, I am now recieving my long-term follow-up care from my primary care physician. While this doctor has my confidence as a general practitioner, I do not believe that he is able to keep up with the latest post-bariatric surgery follow-up care information, guidelines and recommendations.rnrn(Per the ObesityHelp.com guidelines, these are my personal impressions of my own personal experience. I am making no statements about what other people may experience.)rn

Dr. Kaniewski was very polite, professional, kind and informative in explanning the different types of baractric procedures. When at follow-up appointments she was there to answer questions and or concerns that I may have. The MISH hospital is a excellant baractric hospital and comes highly recommended. I was impressed with the facility and how large it was. Everything I needed was there on site. The staff is was very polite and helpful. They are there to answer any questions and usually would resolve any problems that I may have. I felt as if I was a person and not just a number, and that the doctor knew me personally. I was well informed by the doctor as to what was to be expected before and after surgery. She addressed the risks and advantages of having the lap-band procedure performed. I like the fact that the MISH hospital offers it's patients support groups, nutritional help, and one on one patient support. In general I think that both surgical competence and bedside manner are both essential and important with keeping the patient informed and knowledgeable. Weight loss surgery saved my life and I have no regrets whatsoever.
