Thomas J. White Bariatric Surgeon M.D.,F.A.C.S.

I think my surgeon was the best! rnrnI did some research before selecting Dr. White. There are only a few surgeons in Omaha that do weight-loss surgery. Dr. White had the recommendation of my regular physician, plus I spoke to several others who were very happy with the results they got with Dr. White. I also met with some of his \"team\", and was particularly impressed with the nurse who heads the bariatric surgery program that Dr. White is a part of (her name is Roxanne \"Roxi\" Peters, with the Alegent Health Bariatric Surgery program).rnrnYou should know that visits with Dr. White tend to be short and to the point - he is not one for chitchat! But he is extremely good at what he does, and Roxi and the rest of his staff will spend as much time with you as you need.rn

I met with more with the supporting staff than I did with Dr. White. He did the first public meeting where we could ask questions, but as far as meeting him and speaking with him in person, it was a little disapointing. In my previous experience I had a 1 1/2 hour sit down and talk it all out with the surgeon. My one meeting with Dr. White lasted maybe 10 minutes. BUT I knew from his record that he was a great surgeon. He has done over 500 surgeries, with no deaths and a handful of leaks occuring during his first few dozen patients. He said that he had changed staples that he used and has had no more leaks since then. rnThe office staff is great. I met with Roxy who is a hoot. She was very helpful and informative. They have a great program lined up and you know what you are getting yourself into before you have the surgery. They have a support group that meets once a month that pre~op patients are welcome to attend as well as post~op. They also require follow up care every 3 months for the first year. rnThe staff addressed the risks of surgery and overall, Dr. White is a kind man, but very busy. I felt closer to the supporting staff than him. So I would have to say that his surgical competence is great, but I would have liked to gotten to know him a little better prior to surgery.

Dr. White is very professional. Great Bed-Side Manner.
His office staff is wonderful, especially Roxie, the nutritionist.
My surgery was handled extremely well with no complications. They checked on me frequently and let me know I could call them at any time if I needed them.
I have my first post-op visit tomorrow which is 6 days post-surgery.
I am very happy and would rate Dr. White and his team as excellent both in surgery skill and bedside manner.

He is absolutely wonderful HIGHLY recommended. I have seen the work of others in Omaha and would not go to anyone else. I had laporscopic at 300 pounds and have done exceptionally. No secondary issues at all. Others in the area are very scary. Office staff nice and discreet.
Aftercare is very important including support groups. Very informative every step of the way. Great bedside manner and the expertise surgically to back it up.

my first consult went very well! Then everything went down hill from there !!!I personally feel I was treated unfaily, unjustly, and stongly feel that I have serious health problems that went untreated sry!((UPDATE))
I got some of my health problems takin care off (my small intestine was adhered to my body cavity)so feeling better health wise,i won my approval now I am waiting for consult with a new Dr.I am so excited it's been a bumpy and long road!!
UPDATE
I am now going to DR White,my surgery date is August 15th I get to meet him July 19th

Dr. White is very knowledgable and friendly. He was able to set my mind at ease on our first meeting. He continued to be very caring through the whole process.
Office staff was very professional. I especially liked the nurse that assisted him. Sorry, can't think of her name but was very caring. She answered many questions and was always there with encouragement!
He is a very busy doctor but would have liked it if he could have spent alittle more time with me on office visits.
He is very approachable. His office gets back to you right away if you have concerns or questions.
Nurses do most of the aftercare. He does the follow-up appointments but nurses do most of the talking.
He was very open and honest about the risks of surgery. He also suggested going to a support group before hand to hear what others had experienced.
He is very knowledgable and I would not be afraid to have him do surgery again if I had to choose a doctor.
He has both competence which I feel is very important but his bedside manner is also good.

At first I was upset about the reception I recieved from his office staff. I felt they were very unhelpful and putting me off. I did however find Dr.White to be informative and personable. After the surgery I also found his staff to be helpful and less put upon. The thing I still dislike about this doctor is the wait time required at his office and the over scheduling. I often feel rushed when I have a visit with him. The thing I like most is that given some individual and specific health problems I had he did his best to make sure that I was well cared for. Over all I would rate him as an excellent surgeon with a good bedside manner. Personally I thing the surgical competence is much more important than the bedside manner.
