OMG I fell in love with Dr. Zeni the minute I met him. Very good personality. Especially since he laughed at my jokes. I am fairly funny if I do say so myself! rnrnThe office staff was very friendly. rnrnI met one patient in his waiting room who was 8 weeks out and was so warm and friendly. Not to mention that she had shed 40 pounds already. I hated ending our conversation when she was called back to the NUT. rnrnHe completely covered the risks of surgery, including his mortality rate....didn't even have to ask that question. He was very open about it. rnrn

Quiet at first. A very nice guy--extremely knowledgeable & HUGE proponent of postop pain control. Uses the \"On Cue\" implantable pain pump until your date of discharge. Easy to talk to. Readily answers questions. Addresses your concerns. Thoroughly explained things. Very proactive to prevent postop complications. Has a structured aftercare program. His staff is excellent--very knowledgeable & eager to help. They respond promptly. They hold regular support meetings. I couldn't have had a better WLS team!
Surgery was scheduled and preformed on Tuesday July 29th 2008. rnI meet with Dr. Zeni and his staff at the general meeting as well as at his office and before surgery.rnHe has done over 400 bariatric surgeries and has very low margins of error. St. Mary Mercy Hospitals staff is very caring and helpful. I had no complications and am in very little pain after having a laposcopic Roux En Y Gastric Bypass. I recommend anyone in the Livonia Michigan area that is considering getting this surgery done get it done with Dr. Zeni.
Dr. Zeni is a very personable doctor who is interested in your overall well being. His team is abosolutely wonderful. I went to 3 different surgical consults and I chose Dr. Zeni to be my surgeon. Not just because I feel he is trained well in minimally invasive surgery but because of the support group that his program offers. I believe that the most success is going to come from the support that you receive in this journey. They have the right group and plan for my success. I am scheduled to have surgery 8/26/08. He let me know the risk of surgery as well as the benefits. I will update after surgery to let everyone know how things go afterwards with follow up care. God bless to all.
I just love Dr Zeni and the staff at Michigan Bariatric Instute...Everyone has been awesome, the nurses at St Marys on 5East are so cool as well...I am so happy i Chose Dr Zeni.He is very understanding and very careing about his patients. It is so hard to find a Dr that really cares ..I would recomend Dr Zeni to anyone considering surgery.
I had the advantage over most patients; I work in surgery and had the opportunity to observe Dr. Zeni's performance before he ever knew I was considering bariatric surgery. I was able to see his technique, his behavior toward both patients and staff, and verify his patient success and his complication rate from the inside/out. IMO, Dr. Zeni is technically very good, skilled beyond bariatrics, and also treats his patients with caring and professional courtesy. He's not a hot-head or a cowboy, and can be flexible. His discussions are open, frank, knowledgeable and informative. He provides info and recommends, but didn't force an opinion on me. I know he does the RNY, VSG, and lap-band; I've never seen him do the duodenal switch. I don't know the highest BMI pt he's done. He was able to discuss all three surgeries, their risks and benefits, and research on outcome statstics to me during my appointments with him.rnrnAnd I can't say enough about his office staff! Paula Magid (Director) is a VERY knowledgeable, caring and supportive person, who is post-RNY herself. She speaks with both personal knowledge and professional experience - and she is the nicest person you could ever meet. She's cheerleader, advocate, sister and mother-confessor in one (but I never said she was a saint - she's human, too, which is why everyone loves her). And Angela is a doll! Always helpful, smiling and encouraging.rnrnPaula, Angela and Tamara (nutritionist) conduct a monthly support group that is open to all WLS patients in the southeast Michigan area. From pre-op education, conducting research as part of a multi-center outcomes study, to the stress on the importance of follow-up care and support group attendance, Dr. Zeni and his office staff are clear in the way they discuss, prepare and educate patients considering and undergoing WLS. They are also undertaking steps to be designated as a Bariatric Center of Excellence, which to me just highlights how seriously they are committed to quality care. rnrnMy care at St. Mary Mercy Hospital was great - but I can't absolutely guarantee that it wasn't partly because the staff might have known I was an employee. But the hospital had modified a couple rooms specifically bariatric/obese patients - nice. Although the decor could have been a little brighter!rnrnIn a nutshell - I wouldn't have made my initial appointment with ANY surgeon if I wasn't willing to trust him with my life (NOT easy to do). After going through the process and seeing everything from the PATIENT's side of the table, I can say I am VERY satisfied with my decision and highly recommend Dr. Zeni and the Michigan Bariatric Institute to anyone considering WLS.
Initially, I was very impressed with Dr. Zeni's attentiveness as well as his bedside manner. He personally met with me at my initial consultation appointment and went over all the types of bariatric surgery as well as the pro's and con's of each. He also extensively discussed research against and for this type of surgery as well as the risks and benefits involved. He answered all of my questions without treating me as if I was stupid.rnrnHe seemed a bit rushed at times but still answered all of my questions. rnrnI will tell you more as I continue to go through the process.
I first met Dr. Zeni at a seminar for bariatric surgery. Immediately he impressed upon me as someone who is very intelligent, very peaceful, patient and confident. My second meeting with him proved the very same. I am still in my pre-surgery stage but everything is flowing quite well thanks to his office staff. They all are very friendly, professional and polite to boot. I am so completely comfortable with them. My surgery is scheduled for next month. I have no reservations what-so-ever.
