T. Paul Singh Bariatric Surgeon M.D.
Adjustable Gastric Band
Adjustable Gastric Band
I have met with Dr. Singh on two occasions. One was the seminar to learn about the surgery. The second was my one-on-one with him. Others had prepared me for this visit. Dr. Singh tries to "get into your head" and figure out whether this is the right thing for you or not. Although this made me a little uncomfortable, I can really appreciate what he was doing. He is a very good doctor, because he doesn't just do this surgery because someone wants it. He needs to know in his mind that it is the right thing to do. How many doctors care that much? I chose Dr. Singh because he comes very highly recommended by my other doctors. I see why. He has a very high success rate and cares about his patients. I walked away from his office thinking over my decision and really soul-searching to be sure I was ready. I thank him for that. I'm told he has a great bedside manner and follows up with his patients after surgery in a very concerning way. I will soon find out for myself (Jan 17). So far I am impressed with him and his office staff.
My honest first impression of Dr. Singh - he scared me. I was very emotional the first time I met him, and had a lot of questions. After spending just a few minutes with him, I knew I made the right choice in selecting him to perform my surgery. I think of Dr. Singh as more than a surgeon...I think of him as a psychologist as well. What I mean by that is that he has a very tactful way of getting into your mind and helping you make a very difficult decision. It's almost as if he can read your mind. I was ready to move forward with gastric BYPASS surgery, and after investigating Lap Band surgery, thought bypass was the way to go. Although Dr. Singh didn't come right out and tell me he thought I was a better candidate for the banding, he gave me a lot to think about. So, I left his office faced again with the difficult decision...bypass or banding. Dr. Singh told me I could come back anytime or call him to discuss this further. The great thing about Dr. Singh is that he will give you as much time as you need. He doesn't rush out of the exam room like many doctors. He realized that I wasn't ready, and in fact, I did need more time to decide which surgery to have (I ended up having gastric banding).
Debbie, Dr. Singh's administrative assitant can be abrasive at times, but, once you get to know her, she is fantastic, and she will pull strings for you (i.e. with the insurance company, and the scheduling people in the OR). Just keep an open mind, and realize how busy she is! Jill, his nurse, is also very nice.
Overall, I had a great experience. Dr. Singh answered all of my questions, and I wouldn't do anything differently. I feel his competence as well as his bedside manner are stellar. You can count on Dr. Singh to to "tell it like it is"...he does not mince his words, and I am grateful for that. I would reccomend him to anyone considering bypass or banding and wants to go the laproscopic route.
My impression of Dr. Singh is golden. I believe God provided me with the best surgeon in the area. He is sweet, kind, understanding, informative, patient and understanding.
As time went on my feelings for Dr. Singh as a surgeon and professional only grew stronger. I would recommend him to anyone and everyone. As a matter of fact I have referred him to many people.
I went to see him twice, thinking I was going to get a surgery date. However, he said I was not ready and he did not give me a date. He told me to exercise more and lose more weight. He told me these things because he cares about me as a person. He is a surgeon because he loves people and he wants to heal people. I do not feel and I have never felt that Dr. singh became a sugeon just for the money. If that was the case he would give everyone a date the first time they came to see him. I even know of someone who was on the O.R. table when he discovered they had not quit smoking, he had the O.R. nurse pull the I.V. and send her home. That's how much he cares for people!!
I can't say enough good things about Dr. Singh. He saved my life and he can save yours too, as long as you are willing to follow the rules and do everything he tells you to. If you push your way through and think your getting away with something, your WRONG and you're only hurting yourself.
If you decide to have Dr. Singh as your surgeon, I feel you have made the best decission you can make. I believe with my whole heart and soul that you are in the best hands possible. He will take good care of you before, during and after surgery.
My impression of Dr. Singh is very positive! I felt he really knew what he was talking about.
I was even more impressed over time.
I thought his secertary Debbie could be a little more pleasant to people.
I have no negative feelings about Dr. Singh
He tells you the way things are positive and negitive and it's up to you if you still want to have the surgery.
He has you go to support group before and after you have the surgery. He requires that you go to a nutristionist and PCP for blood test. He see's you 2 weeks out, 1 month out, 2 months out and every 3 months thereafter. But whenever I have a concern I call the office and he calls me back in less then a half hour.
He knows when you're ready for the surgery. You may think you are ready but in most cases you are not. He makes you wait and it could upset you but you will respect him for it after.
Dr. Singh gave me all the information to read which said 1% of people do not make it nation wide. I was in the higher risk group because of my age. But I took that chance and I am glad I did.
I would rate him as fantastic because I feel he saved my life.
I feel his surgical competence and bedside manner are both great!
Dr. Singh was very professional and courteous during our 3 office visits. He was very clear about WLS being a tool and not an easy fix. He also was very up front about the risks involved and the importance of aftercare. He was very patient during my visits - I never felt rushed.
My dealings with his office staff were fine. I had heard that his secretary can be difficult, although I did not experience that myself. My advice would be to bring all your required documentation, including copies, on your first visit. If you are not organized and don't have all your paperwork with you, you will be wasting your time.
Perfect. Answered everything, no rushing, very thorough.
His impression on me has only imporoved. He is a knowledgable professional who cared for me post-op during my worst times. I am grateful to have such a doctor. Very accessible if you have a problem post-op.
All of his assistants are awesome, great MD's, nice nurses
Worth the wait...
Calm, knows what's happening at every stage and able to let me see the light at the end of the tunnel post-op...
Is very strict with regime of what's needed to succeed. Has a great bedside manner, is vety honest and open, allows you to make informed choices, and I can't say enough good about him
My surgeon, Dr. Singh, was outstanding. He explained everything to me over and over againg to make sure that I was ready. I felt very comfortable with him from day one.
The staff was great. Everything that I needed, they were able to provide. Future patients should know that Dr. Singh is very patient and will answer all your questions for you as many times as you like. He even drew pictures for me. He never once rushed me about anything. The importance of the aftercare was drilled in my head alot of times. He made sure I understood everything before I left the hospital. As far as the risk of surgery, he explained them to me, but he try to scare me. He juat explained as with any surgery there are risk that you have to be aware of. I would rate him as an outstanding doctor. He is definitely the best doctor I ever met. He is one doctor that is very good at what he does. I'm glad we met.
I was told by support group members that he was very pickey of who will get surgery and that I should be prepared to be denied by him at the first meeting. I found Dr. Singh to be the total opposite. He was very pleasent, asked alot of questions of me and my wife. He wanted to be sure that I was POSITIVELY sure that I was ready for the surgery, mentally and fuly informed of what is ahead for me. I like him alot.
His office staff couldn't be nicer. I was told bad thingd about his secretary, but again I found her to be VERY helpful. Everything she said she was going to do for me, she did, and in a very timely manner. She called when she said she would call. I was extremly pleased.
Future patients should be well prepared for the surgery before talking with the Doc. He will want to know if you are ready. If your not ... he will know.
He made it very clear to me what my world will be like after surgery and how important it is to do the right things post op to have life long success.
As far as a structured aftercare program, I don't recall him talking of one. I do however am a patient of Albany Clinical Nutrition Specialists, who I will do all my aftercare with as far as nutrition is concerned.
Dr. Singh did address and was very clear about the risks involved and wanted me to have a good understanding of them.
Well so far I would rate Dr. Singh very high. But then we'll all see after surgery. That's where he'll have to prove himself.(lol)
Bed side manner and surgical competence, in my opinion are both VERY important.
My first impression was that he tried to talk you OUT of getting the surgery done, saying life changes and diet changes can work for everyone. I kinda felt lazy cuz I was having so much trouble losing weight.
Over time, I realized he's an excellent surgeon and he comes highly recommended and his attentiveness to you after the surgery makes you feel a lot better.
His staff is friendly, just very busy.
He seemed to have rehearsed his speech so many times he was bored with it.
He puts a lot of emphasis on aftercare. Especially following up with him, your primary doc and nutritionist.
yes
You got a really thick packet to read of all pros/cons, what to expect, how you would feel, etc.
I think the two go hand in hand.
