I have not met with Dr Byrne yet my appointment is on April 13th . But everything i have heard about this man is wonderfull. He did the surgery on a friend of my cousin and she has lost about 400 pounds she has nothing but praise for this man as others i have talked to on the internet. I will let you knolw my personal opinion next week. 04-15-2000
My consulation with Dr Byrne was on Thursday. At first i thought he would be a little unconcerned . But that thought quickly vanished. Their was 3 other ladys there for a consult also .he saw us all individually first then we all got together to meet with him for questions .He was very straight forward in explaining the risks of having the surgery and the benfits if you do have it .He did not try to talk us into it just explined everything in detail and said we all had to make up our on mind. After haering everything all 4 decided to go ahead with the prcedure.Dr Byrne requires all his patients to go to classes with the nurses and dietican The next ones will be on May 4th in Charleston. Dr Byrne semms to really care about his patients not just their money. On a scale of 1-10 i would rate this Dr a 9 .I will let you know what i think after the surgery.

Hello everyone. I just want everyone to know how special Dr Byrne really is . I went for my surgery Friday and ended up having a very bad panic attack . Dr Byrne came in and tried to talk to me . I could not get over the fear that i would die . Dr Byrne was very very nice about the whole situation. He told me i could get a new date .He is so nice and caring .I wish more doctors cared about there patients like he does. date.

I had my first appointment with Dr. Byrne on 7/6/2000. I was very impressed with him. He answered all of my questions. He explained all the things that could go wrong with the surgery. I was very impressed with his staff. I found Jane Mosely, Financial Advisor, to be very helpful with any questions I had about insurance and also about the surgery. It seems as though all of the people involved work together as a team. They are all concerned about you as a person. I felt very special and that I would be well taken care of.

I will have my first appointment with Dr. Byrne on June 8. I'll be sure to write my comments and impressions. My surgery date is penciled in for July 7 barring no complications with insurance co.*** June 9, 2000*** I met with Dr. Byrne yesterday and was very impressed by him and his staff. The one thing I noticed is that he did not in any way try to sway me into having the surgery. He was very informative and did not gloss over any part of the surgery. He told me of several patients that he recently had done that had to be re-opened to correct some kind of problem. One in particular was a friend I met here in the support group. I had talked to her several times on the phone and via e-mail. I got to go to the hospital to see her and she was very upbeat even with the complications she has. I'm sorry she had the problems but it did give me a chance to meet her which I enjoyed. I decided to have the surgery. I am comminted to doing this. Now it's up to the insurance co. *****MORE GOOD NEWS***** JOYCE CALLED ME TODAY TO TELL ME THEY WOULD LIKE TO MOVE MY SURGERY UP A WEEK. SO THAT MEANS ONE WEEK
FROM TOMMORROW JUNE 21,2000!!!!NOW THE ONLY HOLD UP IS THE INSURANCE CO. JOYCE HAS BEEN GREAT. SHE FAXED PRACTICALLY A BOOK ABOUT ME TO MY INSURANCE CO. SHE HAS CALLED ME SEVERAL TIMES WITH IMPORTANT INFO AND SHE IS NOTHING BUT NICE. THIS IS THE WOMAN I'M SUPPOSE TO AVOID? I'VE HAD NOTHING BUT POSITIVE EXPIERENCES WITH ANY OF DR. BYRNES' STAFF. ANOTHER NEWS BREAK-------> June 20, 2000--- Today I would have been on my way to Charleston to have my surgery tomorrow. I received a call from Dr. Byrne personally yesterday morning telling me that his partners' Father had passed away in Canada and he didn't feel comfortable doing my surgery without assistance. So I am back to the original date of July 7. The more I talk to Dr. Byrne the more respect and admiration I have for this man. In this day and age most physicians would have their secretary do this kind of calling but not Dr. Byrne. I fell completely confidant in this man. He seems to me to really care about his patients and also about their after surgery care. I've waited 15 years to have this done, another two weeks won't hurt. My sympathy to Dr. Byrnes colleague in his loss. June 29, 2000*** Surgery date is now July 5, 2000, at 7:30 AM I am more than ready.

I have my first appointment with Dr. Byrne on May 4th, so I have no comments yet. However, I have checked with some of my other physicians who work at the same facility, and they have nothing but praise for him and his work.
I met Dr.Byrne and his staff today and I have to say they were all great! Not to mention that Dr. Byrne is a real hunk! Imagine, good looking and an excellent surgeon too!

My first impression of Dr. Byrne was that he was a very confident and knowledgeable doctor. He was recommended to me "as a surgeon that would tackle a difficult problem when there was no easy solution".
After my evaluation he went into detail about the surgery and its risks. He had the time to answer all of my questions and worries. Later, after I was given a surgery date I attended a class that was taught by a dietitian and RN's that would be giving the aftercare. There were no stones left unturned! After surgery (1-19-00) I would still have to give him an A++ on bedside manner, surgical competence and the thoroughness of my care. He also has an excellent office staff and team that works with him at the Medical University of SC on the 6th floor. They all rank 'superior' and I would recommend them without a doubt. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any quesions.
