My first impression of Dr. Patching at my first appointment was that he was a highly intelligent man who cares a lot about the success of his patients. Dr. Patching's bedside manner is not all that great. I cried on two seperate occasions after I left his office. He is tough. He is all about business. His surgical competence is incredible though, which I feel is more important than bedside manner. Aftercare is important to Dr. Patching, he encourages support groups and he monitors his patients for the rest of their lives. Overall I would rate Dr. Patching an 8/10.
Dr Patching ROCKS!!! He expects nothing less than the best for you, sure there are other surgeons who would take you in the OR sooner, but I know and believe that Dr P wants the best for me! I so much appreciate his pushing and his encouragement!! Some feel he is unreasonable about having you loose weight, I agree with him pushing that, it shows me he wants the best for me. I worked hard, did what I needed to do and here I am! I needed to be in better shape than I was a few months ago and can't imagine being where I was 5 months ago having this surgery. Dr P was VERY upfront about risks with surgery and what he expects from you. He is very realistic regarding this being a tool, not an end all fix. Infact I am confident if you think it is a \"fix all\" he won't do surgery on you. Also, Stacey, the coordinator for his office is great, it was cool, even with her being a fit chick, she can identify with issues I have.\\ This site says rate him? wow, how can you? He is tough and caring, real. I guess since no one is perfect I would give him a 9.9 out of 10
My first empression is that he really cares and understands the need for this surgery. My impression has not changed over the course of time. He shows up to every support group meeting the hospital has. His staff is great and thats why I set up an appointment with him in the first place. He is very matter of fact and sometimes makes you feel stupid when you ask questions thats the only bad thing about him. Future patients should know that if you are not serious and are not trying to loose the weight that he will not do the surgery. I woudl rate him one of the best doctors that I have ever been too. When you have surgery with him you are his patient for the rest of your life and you must see him every year.
I've only gone to the group counseling and have my individual counseling today. I think he's nice...seems like he will do a good job. I will write more when I get done with the visit.
My first impression on Dr. Patching was that he was a well trained and very informed man. He showed compassion as well as concern for what his patient were going through as well as a strictness that is needed with this type of profession.
His office staff was always helpful an curtious with patients. They are always polite and friendly when speaking with them.
You might say he was at times a bit overbearing, but understandably.
He is very strict about your diet and excercise regimen he feels that these are the keys to a successful surgery as well as life style.
He likes lifetime follow up with his patients and encourages group meetings before and after surgery.
He was very thorough with the explanation of the risks that are involved with all WLS procedures that he does.
If you are in need of a doctor who will be completly there for every step of the way during and after I would highly recommend Dr. Patching to anyone considering WLS surgery.
I feel that both competance as well as bedside manner go hand and hand. A patient has to feel comfortable with their doctor.
I highly recommend Dr. Patching as a surgeon. He removed my gallbladder in '95, so I aware of his "no nonsense" demeanor and excellent reputation.
He is very caring and serious about what he does. His offis staff was very friendly and helpful. I have only been to my 1st consult, but I was very impressed with him. He is very focused on making lifestyle changes and will not perform the surgery untill these lifestyle changes have been made. He was very informative and ansewered all of my questions. I feel much more comfortable about this surgery now that I have met him.
My first impression of Dr Patching was that he was a no nonsense type of doctor. I felt very comfortable with him and was confident in his abilities. I like the fact that he is very thorough in his care before and after surgery. He does make you lose weight before the surgery and also see a nutritionist and pychologist. He really wants you to be sucessful in your weight loss and has seminars, support groups etc. He also seems genuinely excited about your quality of life after the surgery. He tells it like it is and goes over all the aspects of the surgery including the risks. His office is very friendly and I have had no problems getting appts, insurance claims, etc. Overall, at this point I would rate him a 10. I'll post more after the surgery.
