EXCELLENT!!!! Dr. Boch was great from the start. You are never just a number for him, he knows his patients and stays in touch with them.

From the first time i met with Dr. Bock I found him to be very caring person and very uptodate in his procedures. He very concerned with pain management. His staff has been wonderful. Being an HMO once you get to the point of seeing him you are home free. It has taken many steps to get here and many many months of trial and error.

1.16.01 I first met Dr. Bock at a recent "educational conference" attended by myself and four other surgical candidates and spouses/significant others. My first impression of Dr. Bock was positive, although I thought he looked a bit like a geek - "this guy is a surgeon?" As he began to speak to the group, and later as my husband and I had a private meeting with him, my impression changed. He has the kindest eyes...they smile at you all the time. He listened to my questions and answered them thoroughly, no holds barred. I trust him to take good care of me in the OR!!!

To be accepted in the WLS surgery program at Group Health, you must agree to a 12 month Nutrition Program where you are working one on one with a dietary counselor over the entire 12 months and following a structured program (it also costs $900.00).

Dr. Bock was up front with me regarding the risks of WLS surgery from the beginning, when in August of 2000 I began the process of getting accepted into the Bariatric Surgery program at Group Health. When he addressed the group, he shared about the specific deaths he has had (4 out of 100+ surgeries since 1994).

On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate Dr. Bock a 9+. If he had done more surgeries, I think I'd give him a 10. I am confident he will take good care of me. ...mew ;-p

I met him briefly a few days before Halloween. He was showing off his black and orange toe socks! Seems to be very dedicated to his patients, and to using the most advanced technology available to aid them. His staff is wonderful, and just make you feel like the most important person around.
My after care will consist of a year of the Group Health weight loss program, to include dieticians to help facilitate the changes in my diet. He is insisting that I take 6 weeks off work afterward. I will find out much more at the oreintation in 2 weeks.
12/19/00 I met with Dr Bock personally on Dec.1/00. He is a very caring person who seems to have a deep respect and concern for his patients. I liked him immensely, and have no trouble putting my care into his capable hands. My date will be 1/11/01, and I have every confidence that I will be a success story!

My surgeon will be Dr. Bock of Group Health
Eastside in Kirkland, WA. I have already
Paid my $1000 co-pay for counseling and liquid
food/nutritional supplements. I should be
set to have the Roux-n-y laporoscopy procedure
before the end of April, 2000. His office
staff - horrible. He has one person doing
all of the scheduling. She regularly calls
off from work for a week or so a time, and
no one else is allowed to cover for her. So
all the waiting clients are stuck until she
returns. The aftercare program is very structured,
requiring prepaying for counseling (30 min per week.)
I have had approval for the surgery for 6
months now, and they are just getting around
to performing it. That is a long time to
wait without any explanations. However, I have
confidence that when they actually go ahead
with the procedure, I will recieve fine care.

My first impression: he appears to really care about his patients.
That is really good. He took with good grace the fact that I wanted to decide to trust him, and that it was not all up to him whether he would be doing a procedure on my body. He looked a little startled. But he handled it well. He seems concerned that patients recieve adequate pain control. That is critical in my books to making a rapid recovery. He still needs to make a radical change in the procedures to get in for the surgery. It is over the top too frustrating to get through the process, even when being proactive on your own behalf.
