Stephen McKenna Bariatric Surgeon D.O.
I had my surger June 28, 2011 and I am goin going on my second year anniversary. I am so glad that I got the surgery. He made me feelcomfortable with him. He is so compasionate and he cares that you do it correctly. He will give you the straight truth no platitudes and he will spend time with you to answer all your questions. When I go to his office for follow ups he is always behind. I don't mind because I know he is spending that extra time with his patients and it not a cattle call to him
Dr McKenna is a wondeful bariatric surgeon! He is compassionate and really does care for his patients. When you are in his office, he will make you feel like you are the only person in the world. His nurse/assistant Sheri is also very highly knowledgeable and compassionate, and will help you in any way she can. I highly recommend this office to anyone looking to have RNY surgery or LapBand surgery!

I knew from the moment I sat through Dr. McKenna's presentation on obesity, types of surgery, pro's and con's, and the whole shabang that he was going to be my surgeon. I absoultely fell in love with him and his staff from that moment forward. They all told it like it is/was going to be. I was super scared the morning of my surgery but the minute I saw Dr. McKenna's smiling face my fears disappeared. Sheri, his right (and sometimes left) hand person in the office has been amazing. She never leaves me hanging even on the simple questions or concerns. Tammy his nurtirenalist (sp) is amazing as well. The first time she showed me what I was going to be able to eat post surgery I about fell out the chair....I couldn't believe it but it has been true and accurate! It has been just over a month now and I am proud and happy to say I am healing wonderfully and feeling better everyday. I am down 23.8 pounds in the first month. If you are looking for a surgeon in Maryland, I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Steven McKenna and staff!!
My first impression of Dr. McKenna was that he actually cares for his patients and wants them to succeed. Even since my RNY, he is still a big part of my journey, and is there with me every step of the way. His office staff are very helpful and compassionate. Dr. McKenna loves to give hugs and treats you like family. I would rate Dr. McKenna a 10 on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the best. In my opinion sugical competence and bedside manner equally great.
The first time I saw Dr. McKenna was at his presentation for gastric bypass. I saw a compassionate man with a sensual new orleans accent. A man who told it how it was but also said nobody here is a saint. When you join us and decide to take the journey you're part of my family. From that point on I knew I found the surgeon who would help me.rnrnSherri, Dr. McKenna's assitant and nurse is an angel. She helps you with everything starting from the insurance down to helping you with getting the medifast before the surgery. She has become a friend and celebrates the weight loss as much as I do.rnrnThe emphasis on aftercare is a must. Once a month support group and now he's even enlisted a nutritionist in his office so everything is very convienent. I hope you like hugs because Dr McKenna will hug you each time he sees you. He will scold you when you're bad but also as a loving PaPa he'll hug you and say we can do better.rnrnI had my gastric bypass on July 15th, 2008 my pre-surgical exam with Dr McKenna was July 9th. Again he went over the surgery totally explaining every aspect and making sure I understood all the risks and also all the benefits. rnrnWhen I finally came out of recovery Dr McKenna came to my bedside and said to me Happy Birthday you have a new birth date and a new life. With that he gave me a hug and said now the fun part begins.rnrnToday is August 15th and a month out of surgery I've lost 38 pounds and total weight from time I decided to change my life around is 120 pounds. I can't say enough about Dr. McKenna or his staff to sing their praises. Thank god I found him and I told him today your my savior and Sherri is my angel. rnrnHow can you rate a Doctor who is so compassionate about his patients without saying He's the Best... I still have a long journey ahead of me but I know all the way down this road Dr. McKenna will be there to help me make it there.
Dr. McKenna was great from the day I meant him, a very caring and compassionate person. Overtime I realized that his first impression is his overall character, to date he continues to impress me with his compassion displayed to all of his patients at the group meetings. rnDr. McKenna's assistant Sheri is exceptional, she too is very comopassionate, supportive, and helpful. Dr. Mckenna went over the benefits and the risk of the surgery. He emphasized that the surgery is just a tool, and made it clear that the patient is still required to do their part to make the WLS a success. I give Dr. McKenna a 10+ he is fantastic. rn
