I was first shocked at how young my surgeon is. I was scared he might not have enough experience or know what he was doing. After talking to him for awhile and listening to all of the different precautions they take and why I was very relieved. He seems to have all of his bases covered and know exactly what he is doing. He has a very friendly bedside manner that made me feel very comfortable talking to him. I didn't leave feeling stupid.
As far as his staff, they are very friendly. My nurse made sure that I knew what I was dealing with and that it would be forever not just until I lost the weight. I like his staff that I met they don't make you feel like a failure for not being able to lose the weight without help.
I had my surgery. I am now on the other side. Woo Hoo! I can't say enough great things about Dr. Stevens or the hospital staff. Dr. Stevens checked up on me and made sure I was doing okay. He seemed to care and be interested in how things were going. The staff was wonderful. They were all very supportive, encouraging and willing to help without having an attitude or complaining. They were great!
I live in Junction City, Ks where Dr. Stevens and his partner, Dr. Bollman, have their practice, so I know first-hand that they are both highly qualified and greatly repsected surgeons. They are our area's only general surgeons and I was thrilled when I found out that they were going to start doing bariatric surgery as well. When I had my appointment with Dr. Stevens I was impressed with his thoroughness and his concern that I be completely informed about what was going to be happening. I like the extra precautions, like the requirement for a pre-op endoscopy, and the fact that he and Dr. Bollman assist each other during their bariatric surgeries. When he finished visiting with me his office nurse went over again many of the things he had told me. No one could leave that office without all questions being answered. She had me sign consent forms--a liver biopsy and cholecystectomy are done at the same time--and set me up for all my pre-op procedures. I left the office excited and confident that I had made the right decision.
My first visit with Dr. Stevens went real well he spent 2 hours explaining everything, answered all my questions before I had chance to ask them.
His nurse is fantastic she went over all my pre-op stuff and even visited me after surgery. That meant alot since my family were not able to be with me.
While in the hospital Dr. Stevens was awesome. The first and second day he checked on me 2-3 times a day, even made sure the hospital staff were treating me okay.
I truly wish that I could find a caring, compassionate Dr. like that in my area.
