very business like...this surgeon is absolutley the best..she leaves no doubt in your mind about her ability and the risks and rewards of the decision you are making. The after care staff at her office is wonderful..i only wish I could have brought them with me when I moved to the Midwest!!

I went through 4 different surgeons before I found Dr. Blackstone. Thank God I found her! I had issues with the Dr.'s here in New Mexico. Too many horror stories and deaths surrounding the surgeons here so I didn't feel comfortable. They also thought I was high risk and wouldn't even make an appointment to even see me. I saw a commercial on TV and decided to go through the Wish Center in Arizona. What a mistake and a waste of 5 months of my time! They said they wanted me to do all this work prior to surgery for 3 months and keep a daily diary. Well, this didn't work for me so when i went for my pre-op appt. which was 2 weeks before my scheduled surgery they said sorry you didn't work hard enough we'll reschedule for 3 months out. After sitting in their office for over 8 hours I blew up and told them where they could go. My daughter told me about Dr. Blackstone as a friend of her's had surgery with her so I went to her seminar in april 2004. As soon as I saw her I knew she was the right person for me. I believe I had to take that year long journey to appreciate the fact of going to her. She gave a great seminar and I learned more from her in that 2 hour seminar then I did in the full year it took me to get to her. I believe Dr. Blackstone to be the best in her field. I had surgery last August of 04 and have done extremely well and way better then others whom have gone to other surgeons here locally. Dr. Blackstone and Dr. Keirnan are the most personable Dr.'s i've ever met. They truly care about your well-being and do their best to make sure your taken care of properly and are totally informed about everything be it good or bad. Dr. Blackstone's office is the most professional and caring staff you can work with. The finance person was a little abrasive, but worked through it anyway. The nurses are some of the best i've ever dealt with as well. They are extremely knowledgeable and very helpful as well. The aftercare program is bar none the best i've seen. I have several friends whom have had surgery through several other dr.'s and they have no after-care programs at all. I believe this is why I have done so extremely well with the program Dr. Blackstone and Dr. Keirnan have in place. Here in NM people seem to be jealous because we're a "Blackstone" patient. I have had no complications at all from surgery. I had laprascopic surgery and was out in a hour and a half. The other 4 Dr's stated I would have to have open surgery because of my prior gallbladder surgery 28 years ago. Not Dr. Blackstone, she did her thing and I couldn't be happier! I'm a great success story and I owe it to Dr. Blackstone and Dr. Keirnan and their staff! If you go to anyone else, I'm sorry!

Dr Blackstone is a very caring person, she is confident in her success as well as mine. I feel that I have the best surgeon to do this procedure and am part of a growing family who will provide all the support I will need to get thru this. The staff are wonderful, very upbeat. There is nothing I dislike about Dr Blackstone. Future patients should know that she is the best, I would reccomned her to anyone considering the procedure. Aftercare is very important, I was advised to get into therapy in order to have the surgery and have done so, there are also support groups 2x a month and I have joined an online support group. The risks of surgery were explained to me. I would rate Dr Blackstone #1. Both surgical competence and bedside manner count for me, I want to know that my Dr is approachable for any matters that may come up and that they will take the time to address them as well as knowing they can do the job with minimal risk to me...

I cannot speak highly enough about Dr. Blackstone and her staff. I researched this procedure thoroughly and met with 3 surgeons and it was immediately clear that Dr. Blackstone had the most comprehensive program, including both pre-op and post-op education and support.

Excellent and very competent and complete excellent program.
She is a drill sargent providing a great program.
Impression got even better and after surgery was able to contact easily off hours.
Got me in for CAT scan in 2 hours when I had a moderate fever 8 days after surgery.
Getting paperwork to insurance and billing were slow.
Aftercare is a great strong point. It is included with dietician, exercise physiologist, nursing staff, psychological staff. Especially enjoyed group meetings that are held 2x per month. I go every 6 to 8 weeks as I am out of state.
Great aftercare program - from what I hear the best in the southwest.
Great bedside manner- she cares so much for her patients and with her experience and staff, surgery is short- one hour and twenty minutes. Her nursing staff in the hospital makes sure you follow instructions including walking every 2 hours starting six hours after surgery!

I switched to Dr. Blackstone's clinic (Scottsdale Bariatric Center) after numerous problems getting approved while going to Barix. I am very pleased with Dr. B and her whole staff, and am anxiously waiting for a rapid approval from my Insurance Company!
Dr. Blackstone is obviously doing this type of surgery for reasons very different than just the money, or the love of operating. She genuinely wants to help each and every patient she sees, and she gets this point across when she looks you right in the eye with compassion and understanding.
If I had anything negative to say, it would be that because they are so busy in her office, it sometimes takes them a full day to get back to you when you call. But I have been dealing with Becky, who does scheduling, and she has been wonderful...and always does get back to me before the end of the day!
I am now 8 days Post-Op, and I have even MORE good feelings about Dr. Blackstone and her staff! As I learn more about their aftercare program, and compare it to my sister and my good friend, who have both had surgery elsewhere, I feel grateful that I found Dr. Blackstone. Their program is first rate, and their staff are available whenever needed for post-op patients.

My first impression was positive yet I had my reservations because she was new to this procedure. Her knowledge of medicine and WLS training in San Diego helped to ease my tensions. The office staff was always welcoming and supportive. Future patients should know that they are receiving a dedicated professional who is passionate about her work. Dr. Blackstone emphasizes the risks of surgery during the pre-op orientations and one-on-one consultations. The one thing that she told me that stuck in my mind is that this surgery is a means to an end; not an end in itself. She prefaced this by saying that you have to work at achieving your weight loss goal, don't rely upon the surgery to do everything for you. Keeping that in mind, I was blessed to reach my goal (-140lbs) within the first year and have maintained my weight loss for two years now. I didn't have any initial complications but had to have my gall bladder removed two years later. I am told that with any substantial weight loss there is a possibility of developing gall stones so I can't directly attribute the second surgery to a WLS complication. My overall experience with Dr. Blackstone and WLS is positive, I'd give her an A for surgical competency and bedside manner!
