Dr. Robert W. Wegner was the speaker at the Saint Francis Center for Surgical Weight Loss Seminar I attended in July 2013. He was very impressive while explaining every detail of the RNY Gastric Bypass and Vertical Sleeve surgeries in a manner everyone could understand. During my surgery consult with Dr. Wegner he took the time to explain the pros and cons of my surgery, explained the risks of having the surgery and the risks associated with remaining obese. I believe Dr. Wegner was very thoughtful and caring about how I felt and provided comforting words. I never once saw Dr. Wegner when he did not have a smile. Dr. Wegner's staff are every bit as wonderful. Janell Gill was my Patient Advocate. She made sure all of my pre-surgery tests were scheduled and completed within as short a time period as possible while walking me through the insurance and Medicare processes without fail. I could not have gone through the qualification process without her. The dietitians' were wonderful as well. My classes with Anna McCullough were great. After attending her classes I was confident I could make good nutritional decisions and comply with the strict pre and post surgery diets. She presented a life style dietary change that I could accept.
My whole prep experience was smooth and was very informative. I always knew what was going on with the insurance process.
In the hospital, my only complaint was that I had a period of being anxious - too the point my husband was worried about me. He didn't seem too concerned that I was at panic mode.
Other than that he answered all my questions and concerns.
Post op, I have only seen him once to remove my drain. He answered all my questions .

Dr Wegner is very kind and compassionate. Although he is a very busy man, he answers all questions you may have and really cares about your well-being. His staff is the same. After I had surgery and was in the hospital, he came to see me multiple times. I had a few issues because I am also a kidney patient. He reassured me that all went well in surgery and that I should do very well. I would highly recommend him to anyone contemplating bariatric surgery.
Seems to be a very skilled and compassionate. Very structured aftercare program. Excited to begin this process with him.
Update:
Had surgery and Dr. Wegner was great. Had surgery on Friday and he came around Saturday and Sunday mornings to check on me. He answered my questions and encouraged me to continue to walk.
Had my one week post op appointment and I think my opinion changed drastically. Seemed like we were all hearded in and out cattle. He spent approximately 2 minutes in there and was on his way out the door until I stopped him to answer some of my concerns. He did stop and answer my questions but I just felt rushed. These are just my personal impressions of my own experience in the post op appointment.
Dr Wegner is a very tall man, but rest assured he is NOT overbearing in any way. He doesnt look at you like a fat person. He looks at you like you are a very beautiful person. He is extremely caring. He always answers questions and takes his time with each and every person. His ideals feed over to his office staff as weel. Each one of them is nice and caring and takes time to help you.
After I have surgery I will give a more detailed reviews.
