Dr. Li is great. He was very informative of the surgery. The staff at Kaiser South San Francisco's Bariatric surgery department is wonderful. The entire program is nothing less than awesome. The approach to weight loss as a mind, body and spirit journey makes this a more feasible journey for me to go through and complete.
I was told Dr. Li was very abrupt and brief with people. However, I thought he was very kind and seemed genuinely concerned for my health. His staff was great at getting appointments made around my schedule although a few staff members seemed rude over the phone.rnrnI would rate him as one of the best surgeons in his field. I have had zero complications and feel wonderful!
Dr Li lacks a bit in people skills. But in a pinch like my emergency he was professional and helpful.
Kaiser has a fabulous pre-op and post-op care program. It takes forever to have the surgery but by then you really know what you're getting into.
What Dr Li lacked in bedside manner he more than made up for in his manner in handling my emergency - internal bleeding needing 3 units. He seems to have a fine reputation though he was not my choice - they had an opening and I jumped in. I really had no preference who did the surgery. All the Kaiser bariatric surgeons have a fine reputation.
Dr. Robert Li didn't have alot to say during our two appointments so far, but what little he said was important. His bio is impressive and he has performed many surgeries even though he looks so young! Dr. Li is listed on this website as being from Burlingame but is now at Kaiser South San Francisco.
My first impression of Dr. Li was that his bedside manner needed a little work...he was a little cool and rushed. But then I thought to myself...this man is so busy, he is seeing so many people each day and trying to provide as much information to each of us and gather information from us in such a limited time. I knew then that I needed to look at him through different eyes. I had told him that I had read his bio and was very pleased that he was going to be my surgeon which prompted a wide grin from him. I then also apologized upfront for any proclimations of love I may impose upon him when being awakened from anesthesia! He thought that was pretty funny and we were off to a great appointment and an agreement that we would both forget anything I might say to embarrass either of us! Dr. Li's staff is very helpful, very informative and always friendly. They each treat you as though you are a family member of theirs and show true excitement for you on your upcoming surgery.

My first impression of Dr. Li was that he seemed young for a surgeon, but he was also very nice and friendly.
His office staff is very helpful and they all seem to know what they're doing.
They emphasize after care a great deal. They also require you visiting a nutritionist, a psychiatrist, and losing 20 lbs. prior to surgery.
He was very thorough with the risks of this surgery.
Overall I would give him a very high rating so far.
Both surgical compentence and bedside manner are important.
Had the initial consultation on 08/29/03. It went great. Dr. Li was very thorough and answered all of mine & my Husbands questions. He expects a lot, but I had all my paperwork in order and had already lost 35lbs in the past couple of months for this, so he's not requiring any more. I have 1 more appt on 9/29 when I will get my surgery date. >>> Got my date: 11/07/03 YAY, though I must say the return appt was pretty much a waste of time, we went over the same stuff as the 1st appt & they hadn't sent the letter for ins approval, when I was told we were putting this appt out a month so that we would HAVE the approval in hand when making the appt. OH well, since I BC PPO, there should be no problem. At least we got the date!!!
