My first impression of Dr.Wiltse was great!
He came right in and before I could even gather my thoughts of questions to ask him, he'd already answered them. He explained every thing in detail and seemed very knowledgeable about this procedure. From the time I walked in the office I felt the warmth from the entire staff. Everyone was Great!!!!

I was supposed to have Dr. Capps do my surgery, but he was deployed. I could wait for him or Dr. Wiltse was available. I have waited a long time for surgery, so I was anxious to continue. Things came together quickly, I did not meet the Doctor until right before my surgery.

Dr. Wiltse was quiet. He allowed me to talk and ask my questions. He answered all my questions in words that I could understand. He was relaxed and professional. He made me feel at ease.

The surgerical team, nursing staff, x-ray, dieticans, respiratory techs, EVERYONE was great.

I Highly recommend this doctor and his staff.

I met Dr. Wiltse in the Dallas office, he is very informative, covered all of my questions and had a great presentation of exactly what the procedure looked like. He was very reassuring about the risks of the surgery... and backed all of his statements with facts.
His manner was very pleasant, funny at times and easy to talk too. My mother came with me and had not done any research on the procedure. He was able to make her comfortable with the information and feel that her daughter would be well taken care of. Not necessarily and easy task!
The process that the Texas Bariatric Center goes through really made me feel that I was going to have support and information along the way. Their followup program (aftercare) and materials are very comprehensive and I will have access to a variety of counseling while in the hospital and after.
The advantage of being in a facility that this is all they do is huge. I am not concerned with nurses not being sensitive to the situation or making a mistake because they haven't supported a bariatric patient before.
I have had very positive experiances with the staff... only complaint has been around returning phone calls in a tight turnaround... but not a hug hassle. The tech that took my medical history and weighed me etc (always so hard) was so sensitive and delivered my BMI and loss to goal weight with the statement "this is what we will help you to lose!" So promising.
I know that all positive responses can be less informative... but at this point I have been extremely impressed with this group and especially Dr. Wiltse.

My impression of Dr. Wiltse is that he is very professional and know that the surgery he performs will make a great diffence in the lives of his patients. My overall opinion is that I liked being able to tell my Dr. why having this surgery is important to me and that I am not just a number in line like at a couple other places in the Dallas area. For the most part the office staff was OK. There was a new young man there who was not as familiar with the computer and he made the process go a little slower than it probably would normally have gone. Dr. Wiltse did stress the importance of aftercare and how he wanted to track my success. He addressed the risks of surgery however I had done my footwork already and knew what he was going to say. I really encourage everyone who wants to have this surgery to look into all aspects of it and noe just an "easy out" for weight loss. Understanding that this is just a tool for weight loss--but your eating and excercise habits are the keys to your success.

Had my consultation on Friday 03/14. Dr.Wiltse was very straight forward & business like, which is fine with me. I don't need a "buddy", I need someone who I feel is a good surgeon! It was late in the day & they were running a bit behind but I still didn't feel like anyone was rushing us. My questions were answered by the nurse, the patient counselor & the doctor. The facility was very nice but a bit more privacy would be good with regards to the position of the scale. Its in an outer office area & anyone with you or near you in that area can see the reading. I'm awaiting insurance OK now so time will tell! Overall, I feel positive about the visit and that all there will do their best to help me.

I would definitely not recommend this surgeon.

First, the results of my research from the Texas Board of Medical Examiners website: He's 46 years old, received his first license in Texas in 1985, graduated from Univ. of North Texas Health Science Center, and his specialty is general surgery. He has had at least three malpractice suits filed against him within the past several years. In addition he is not a M.D., but instead is a Doctor of Osteopathy.

And as for my review of him...

I'll just go ahead and cover my you-know-what and say that the following is based soley on my own personal experiences with Dr. Wiltse and I have no way of predicting what others might experience...blah, blah...

When I first met him, it was at my PATs (my consultation was done with Dr. Capps, who has been activated with the Reserves). Everyone knows how you feel a week before your scheduled surgery...anxious to get it done. Counting the hours. I was so excited that I would have let almost ANYONE wield the scalpel. So when I didn't click with him initially, I just let it slide.

Said hello before the surgery and then I was out. Didn't see him after the surgery (that I remember) until the day I was discharged, and then only for a minute or two, so that was unmemorable.

My problems with him begain after I went home. I have found him to be unprofessional, uncaring and condescending. I have had some minor complications and dealing with him through this has been a miserable experience. I would never recommend him to anyone. In fact, I am currently trying to get switched over to Dr. Leverton's roster.

If I had to do this over again I would have waited for Dr. Leverton or chosen another facility.

More information, including the specifics, are included in detail in my profile.

When I first met him on Jan.6-03 I was really nervous,He put me at ease really quick,My sister was there and she asked questions that I would never have thought about. He was quick and understanding of my fears. He had a pleasent sense of humor.
His staff was helpful and very nice. They took time to talk and joke to put me more at ease.
Aftercare was very important to him,he explained what would happen and what to expect.
I was of not happy about taking sleep apnea
test, and finding I would have to be on a cpap machine for six weeks before surgery.
I understand why it is nesessary.so everthing will work out for the best.
I have complete confidance in his sugical abilities, and I'am waiting to get all the
rest of my suff done.good luck to everyone else.

2/12/03 - I met Dr. Wiltse today and he seems just fine. Local boy, great record, and has done over 100 RNY procedures at plus 15 yrs of general surgery including ER trauma surgery. When I asked Dr Wiltse why he choose to wrench on us fattys, his reply in short was he wanted some nights and weekeends off. I will allow him to cut me.

Also did pre-op tests: Bloodwork, Gall Bladder ultrasould, and chest X-ray. I also met with the Respiration Tech for post op breathing exercises.

Over all the experience was as good as could be. The Bariatriac Treatment center seemed well coordinated and patient aware.

One note I would make is that there are well observed time guidlines for the amount of time you are there and how much time you spend with each testing station. This is a benifit in that you are not waiting around much. I didn't even start my book!

I had my consultation very late in the day. Dr. Wiltse was very nice and answered all my questions. He is fairly new to this facility but has experience in general surgery. The office staff was nice but in a hurry to get home.
