Dr. Anez was very straight forward about all of the
information at the initial meeting. Shannon and
Veronica (at the Woodbridge office) are wonderful!
They got my insurance request submitted and I was approved
in about 1-2 weeks. I am currently getting the
tests done preparing for my surgery 3/13/2002.
I AM EXCITED!
I will visit with the dietician soon.
Going to the support group mas been a BIG HELP!
People who have "been there - done that" are able to
share their experience.
I will update after my surgery.
Dr. Anez was kind of short-spoken. He seems to be competent and confident.
His staff is outstanding and has been very helpful.
My only real complaint is that the office scales only reach 430lbs, but I weighed 515, so I had to go to the hospital (not a real trial, as the hospital is next door, but you'd think that a doctor that specializes in fat folks would have a scale with more range)
I was well informed of what to expect, and both he and staffers visited me several times during recovery.
Met with Dr. Anez today. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I have read each end of the spectrum comments about Dr. Anez - either you like him or you don't. I found him to be pleasant and very professional. He was very thorough in explaining the surgery, his procedures, and answered all of my questions. The paperwork will be submitted to Kaiser tomorrow - they said it should take about a week or so to get the approval back, and as soon as they do, the surgery will be scheduled.
My Doctor is Dr Anez, he is located at 3700 Joseph Siewick Dr. Ste 100 Fairfax, Va.
I have met him once. He explained the surgery to me and to my husband. My husband felt he was a lttle standoffish. I had heard this about him too,but was told he is a very good Doctor, who knows what he is doing. He answered all my questions and i feel comfortable having him do my surgery.
His staff seem very nice and very helpful.
They put the information into my insurance and had an ok back within 2 weeks. They then let me know my surgery date is 2/26/01.
I have also met with his nutrionist Lida Aills, she was very helpful, with lots of needed information. He also has a surport group called the Staple Club and I am looking forward to going to the meetings.
6/4/01: I had my surgery 5/2/01 with Dr. Anez. My first impression was favorable; he took the time to explain the surgery and had a lot of information to give me. In addition to the pre-op tests, he requires that you meet with his nutritionist 3 times before and 1 time after surgery, which is fabulous. Sally is amazing and her breadth and depth of information on nutrition issues for gastric bypass patients is wonderful (plus she's a personal trainer, something I'll be taking advantage of in about 3 more weeks!)
The office staff is very nice, a bit busy and sometimes you have to call back after leaving a message, but rarely. The emphasis on aftercare with Dr. Anez is comforting, you know you're not just going out there with no information.
On the surgery date, Dr. Anez was very kind and solicitious, and his assistant, Dr. Hami (sp.?) was amazing. I freaked out a little bit when the nurse put an oxygen mask on me right before I went under, and he noticed and asked what was wrong. When I told him I was feeling a bit claustrophic with the mask, he said "No problem" and held it in front of my nose for the 20 seconds it took me to go under. What a great guy!
As far as the surgery went, I had an open RNY with a fairly small (4.5 inches about) incision, very neat, healed beautifully. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Anez and his practice.
The surgeon had no warmth. Very business-like, appeared non-caring, saw patient as a piece on material on conveyor belt to be operated on. Impression did not change over time. In the hospital, after the operation,I felt that he was trying to get patients out of the beds as soon as possible--in order to refill them with more of his surgeries. His office staff were just as single-minded as the surgeon. They were happy to help as long as you have a simple, easy problem. If not, you are just out of luck.
You need to enlist the active support of family, friends, coworkers, whoever is willing to read the "books" the surgeon and his dietitian gives you. This is the one surgery you will have to know what to do on your own. You cannot depend on the surgeon to be there. For example, my surgeon left the country about a week after my surgery. He did tell me in the hospital that he was leaving the country. When I called the office less than a week after being released from the hospital (because of nausea, not eating, not drinking), I was told my surgeon was out of the country. Also, was not given prescription for Zantac before leaving the hospital. I had to go to the surgeons office to get a prescription about a week after thes surgery. VERY FRUSTRATING!!!
Dr. Anez is a wonderfully skilled surgeon, with whom is very knowledgable at helping assist me with my gastric bypass. Dr. Anez was very quiet at first, and then became very interested in my health and physical changes.
The staff at Dr. Anez\' office is fantastic, if it were not for his previous office manager,Margaret..I would not be here today, down 20 dress sizes..Thank you Margaret whereever you are..You have been a real blessing.
Dr/ Anez also has awonderfully bright bubbly and very helpful nutritionist, Sally Myers. She has been a very important factor in so many of Dr. Anez\' patients weight loss success.
I was totally aware of all risks and the entire procedure of the gastric bypass.
Dr. Anez is a perfect 10.
Dr. Anez has been a wonderful asset in my weight loss success and his surgical competence and bedside manner were overall fantastic. I rate them both the same as far as what is important to me.
Dr Anez is very through. A little brisk in his explanation but very willing to explain any questions you might have.
The Office Staff in Fair Oaks and Woodbridge are very caring and just as excited as you are about your having the surgery and starting your new life.
You should know that Dr Anez and his staff are supportive and there for you should a problem arise.
Very good pre and post op care lots of tests and sessions with the nutritionist they lay out all of the problems and how to avoid them if you follow their plans you'll do fine.
As for the risks Dr Anez was very upfront with all the statistics. Also as one of Jehovah's Witnesses I had a talk the first appointment about the possibility of how often a blood transfusion was needed at first Dr Anez hesitated but we were able to get over his objections.
Dr Anez has a nice bedside manner and his surgical competence is fantastic.
