Dr. Nguyen seemed like a very confident Doctor. If you get a chance, go to: http://www.ucdmc.ucdavis.edu/
Do a search on "Matrix", it is a publication and it has an article on Dr. Nihn Nguyen. He is extremely interesting fellow and it gives you insight to his personality.

I also learned that you do not have a choice of lap at UCDMC (you do have a choice if you just want open.) If you desire lap, you join the study, in the study they ramdomly perform lap vs. open on different people, so knowing which you will get is not always known far in advance (usually at your second visit you'll know). You will not get lap just because you ask for it. If you want lap 100%, best idea is to go to a Hospital that just performs lap.

6/21- I was officially chosen for LAP, this will cut my recovery time in HALF.

I'm sorry, I have never met this Dr., but he would be my surgeon if I were to have the surgery. The reason is because he takes Medicare, and a good friend of mine used him for the surgery and highly recommended him.

When I first encountered Dr. Nuyegen, I thought he was somewhat abrupt and then I realized he was not there to win a popularity contest, I asked him about his past record of this surgery, and I checked with his staff and some of his peers about him and the more I found out the more I liked. With each visit my impression changed he appeared to warm up and become mor friendly and caring. I thought his staff are the greatest. There is nothing that I do not like about this doctor. Anyone that might go to him in the future be prepared to let him be in control, but he likes for you to ask questions, don't be intiminated by his strong personality, and you will see he has a softer, caring side with a great and quick sense of humor.

He is adamant about aftercare, and he tells you up front what the risks are with out pulling any punches.(He is not a timid soul)

I rate him in his professionalism as a 9 on a scale of 1 to 10. As for his surgical competence, I think he will be a giant in this field. Considering that he is so young and that he is aperfectionist in what he does, I believe that we will hear a lot more of this doctor. His bedside manner is great, if he likes you if he doesn't warm up to you I think he could be a bear. He has one thing on his mind and that is what he does and if you can live with the idea that this doctor does not have time to coddle you, but is a surgeon to be respected than you are in good hands with him.

Surgery actually will be done laparoscopically by Ninh T. Nguyen who practices with Bruce Wolfe. Both are professors at the University of California Davis School of Medicine. The last time I saw him, (my 1 year post-op) he said "Wow, did I do this???" :)

Dr. Ninh T. Nguyen. ( UC Davis med. center)
I liked him, he was straight to the point and made sure i understood everything. He really stesses the risks, the differances of the risks between lap and open.
