Nicole Fearing Bariatric Surgeon M.D.
When I first met her she had me instantly at ease. She talked to me at the same level I talked with her. No using terms over my head (I have a bit of medical knowledge and did a lot of research). I absolutely love my Sleeve and my Surgeon!!!
She listened when I had something to day and steers me in the right direction when I need it. Sat with me 2x pre-op talking over risks and expectations.
Office staff was instrumental in paperwork submission to insurance. Approval from Cigna in a week. (Thanks Lisa Katsantones.) The Nurse Rachel Honey was very helpful and prompt returning calls/emails.
Love, Love, Love the office staff. Always welcoming and personable. (None of which can be my fault because I am a comedian anyway)
These were just my personal impressions of my own personal experience and I am making no statements about what other people may experience.
When I began looking for a surgeon I concentrated on professionalism. A few Kansas clinics solicited me with poorly written newsletters. That doesn't seem like an issue that would make my decision, but I am educated and try to surround myself with people that will encourage professionalism. I waqnted a doctor that would be professional in her newsletter, stationary, web design, office appearance, human characteristics and integrity. Dr. Fearing is proud, but more importantly she is "real". She hugs me not a hand-shake. She sat with me for two hours in recovery. She called and visited often and took extra time to hear my questions.
I am five days out from surgery and although i am sore, I am pleased with my surgery and my decision to travel 6 hours to Kansas City to have the surgery. It was a great experience.
Dr Fearing and her team is just great i'm blessed to have found them. I went to the seminar on Jan 12th by april everythin was approved everything is done!!!!!!! They have taking care of everything for me. I will tell everyone i come across to go out to Columbia to see Dr. Fearing and her staff. Had Surgery in August and pleased with Dr Fearings team.
I had Dr. Fearing and she was wonderful! When I first met her, I thought she was going to be great. And she was. She was very helpful and caring. She answered ALL my questions, no matter how silly. [ && my opinion has never changed ] Her office staff was very nice too! They were all helpful and friendly. I would HIGHLY recommend her and the entire University of Columbia-Missouri staff for bariatric surgery! They have a highly thought out plan and are interested in you and your progress all the way, from start to never ending. Every single aspect of the surgery was explained to me, more than once. They really want to make sure that you are FULLY informed of what is going to happen. On a scale of 1-10, I would give her a 15... She was amazing!! rnrnAbout the only \"negative\" I have is that I haven't been able to see/talk to her since my surgery, but I also understand that she is busy... I have talked to some of her associates/RN's...
My first impression was, \"My God, she is so young!\" I had originally wanted Dr. Scott because of his reputation and his clinic times. The staff asked me to meet her and see what I thought. After spending more time with her in the first consultation, I was sold. Dr. Fearing is warm and has a great sense of humor; she did not talk down to me and even shared some personal information. On the way out that day, I decided she was going to be my surgeon. On the second visit, she was just as she was the visit before but she was efficient it letting me know all of the risks. I am having surgery in a couple of days, so I'll post after that to talk about surgery and post-op care (which she and the rest of the clinical staff really super big on). The office staff have always treated me very well and Leslie, the insurance guru, was fabulous. Natalie, the nurse, is great and her mantra is \"Don't make me hunt you down.\" She wants to be called with any problems you have whether before the surgery, in the hospital, or post-op. The dietician is great and is working with me on my vegetarian diet. Support groups are led by RN, dietician, or psychologist. So far, all I can say is FABULOUS, FABULOUS, FABULOUS! They have hired a Bariatrician to help us with diet and exercise issues. One negative, the four hour class was more like five and a half.
My first impression of Dr. Fearing was that she was a kind and caring person, which has become more apparent as time goes by. I had my surgery on June 19th. Dr. Fearing is GREAT! I would recommend her to everyone! rnThe office staff is nice though one or two can be a little testy at times. I recommend getting copies of all your paperwork and carry them to every visit. Hand deliver everything, and get the name of the person you gave it to, and when. My packet had to be submitted 3 times, only to find out that they already had it. This slowed my process down. As for Dr. Fearing, I could not complain about her one bit. She emphasizes after care extensively with its importance. She sat down with me and went over every detail of the risks of surgery. Even though I felt comfortable with the risks already, she wanted to make sure I understood completely. On a scale from 1-10 I give Dr. Fearing a 10+++. As for as her bedside manner and surgical competence, she excels in both. She takes time to answer all your questions and she proved to me that she was very competent in her field. I really can not find one thing I did not like about her. she is carring, non-critical, understanding, and informative. She may have her flaws, but I did not see them.
I originally met Dr. Fearing at the seminar in Springfield in July and because she was new to the MO Bariatrics program in Columbia, I had my mind set on Dr. Scott-as I could check on his credentials and read his comments on line from other patients. Dr. Fearing had the first opening when I made my consult, and I jumped at it, so I could finally get this journey started officially. When I had my consult, she spent 45 minutes with me, explaining everything and going over my knowledge of each and every step of the process. She made me feel completely comfortable, has a great sense of humor (as I joked with her that she was the only person EVER to fondle my fat-so she MUST be special!! LOL) When we were done, I went to shake her hand and thank her, and she hugged me instead. She seems very concerned, knowledgable, and very intelligent. She is down to earth and I felt very very comfortable with her. The program there is very strict and they stress before and after care and you have to walk that line-or jump through the hoops, or you just dont get in. I would rate the surgeon herself an A so far, and the ONLY complaint I have, is not regarding her, herself, but sometimes you have to call the office 10 times before getting your answer to a question or situation....granted, they arent emergencies, but it gets frustrating all the same.rn01/26/07rnWell, I have since had my surgery w/Dr. Fearing and Dr. Scott worked with her-let me say I personally ALWAYS saw my surgeon for my pre-op appts AND post op. I CANNOT stress enough how AWESOME she is! She IS compassionate, understanding AND knows what she is doing. She spends ALL the time with you that you need, you dont feel rushed and before surgery, while I was being prepped, I lost it-and I mean the big time crying-it all hit me at that point and I was scared out of my mind-she saw me before prepping AND she came in and held my hand while they were prepping me on the operating table. I saw her after recovery and then she checked in on me every day-even when Columbia got that huge snow storm and the hospital was on lock-down and she couldnt make it in-she called my room to check on me and how I was doing!! I got sick after my one week check up-and had to see my doctor at home-and her office called to check on me, not once, but twice to make sure I was getting what I needed from the doctors here. This surgeon is truly an angel to myself and my family and I feel one hundred percent confident in her. I could NOT find one thing she could even improve on, except for the front office staff-but thats it!! When I got frustrated back in October regarding ALL the pre-op testing I had to go through, she said to me \"I know it is frustrating, but I do NOT want to walk out and tell your wonderful husband and 4 beautiful children that I lost their wife and mother because I didnt do all the testing I needed to beforehand, I NEVER want to have to do that\" She feels for her patients and truly is a gift.
