Dr. Muffy, as his patients fondly refer to him, and his staff are WONDERFUL!!! Deal directly with them and you will be fine. He is a very kind and gentle man. I woke up from surgery with absolutely no pain at all. I never had any pain medication, it felt like I had done too many sit-ups, but that was it! I was out sightseeing very soon after the surgery.

They follow up with me thru e-mail and make sure that I am getting my blood tests and everything. I talk to them more than a lot of people I know who have had the surgery locally communicate with their surgeons. I have lost almost 100% of my excess body weight!!! I have gone from 350 lbs to 165 lbs; I am 5'9" and have a very large bone structure (size 11W shoes!)

I recommend him so highly that I took my mother to him to have her surgery done by him! I would be happy to answer ANY questions about him or the facilities (which were very clean!)

Dr Lakdawala is quite personable, and seems surgically competent. I had a blockage several days after my initial surgery, and he figured out the problem when he went back inside me and fixed it. I wish they had done the second surgery much sooner, as it left me with several agonizing days, but I think he was out of the country. I was a bit unhappy that they tried to persuade me into getting a RNY instead of a DS, which I'd flown 30 hours to India for, and told me some inaccurate things in doing so (such as the surgeries had the same weight loss statistics, and that I'd have horrible gas / diarrhea issues, both untrue). I also had an issue with my \"nurse calling\" button getting turned off when I'd gotten fluid accumulating in my lungs, which was then exacerbating asthma, and they just turned it off. Most nurses didn't speak / understand English as well as I was told they would, but overall, I think the care of both the nurses and doctors surpassed what I would have had in the US, and I would probably do it again.rnOh yah, as far as aftercare, I'd be ready with a local pcp to help with follow up, as I've only had one question for Dr Lakdawala via email, which was not answered. The nutritionist is very good at answering emails and follow up.
