I had the lap band in Feb 2011. I thought Dr. Owens was very straight forward, educated and helpful. The staff is nice and friendly. I have lost over 100 lbs by using the surgery, working out and sticking to healthy, nutritious foods. I find that my food preferences have also changed to the healthier choices. I got Dr. Owens and his staff going on Pinterest which is now part of his website. It's full of great recipes and motivation. I found Dr. Owens thru his website. I'm very happy with him and my results.
I had the surgery 8 years ago June 10th. I am still absolutely happy with the job Dr. Owens did. I look & feel great!!
I love you Dr Owens, you are a lifesaver & all around great man!!!
Dr. Owens is a very distinguished man. He is very professional & I think a truly talented surgeon!!!!! The office staff was very helpful, never rude. When you are at the office you hear lots of laughter.
The aftercare program is great; they really stress exercise & nutrition.
Dr. Owens was excellent; he even gave me his cell number when I had problems with the infection so I could reach him if needed.
I was impressed by Dr Owens thorough explanations during my pre-op visit. He was very willing to answer all my questions. Because he has the COE designation, he offers BLIS coverage, his length of experience with laparoscopic surgery and the number of VSG surgeries performed, I chose him to perform my surgery. Since I was self pay, my experience went quickly - first visit on 6/27/11 and surgery on 8/24/11. Because I had a two week vacation as well as a two week liquid diet requirement to balance during the interim, I worked closely with the office staff to keep track of tests to be performed and to ensure copies of tests already performed were received. It was stressful and required persistence to get it all done on time. I worked with Carina from the office staff and she helped me find a reasonably priced facility to perform a procedure I wasn't able to get through my health plan. Overall I am very pleased with my experience.
Horrible experience! After 3 years of dealing with Dr Owens and his office staff found that going to Fill Centers USA was better! Luckily now Kaiser is doing Lap Bands (and the doctors are now handling lap bands done outside Kaiser) I will have coverage for a much more reasonable price...Spent $$$$$$$ and got nowhere. Met some other patients from his office that had just as bad a time as I did and they are now also going to other places to have their fills done.
I hope all of you that do use Dr Owens do have success and no problems...just know that some of us who were banded in 11/2008 (right before he had his back surgery - don't think he should have been doing surgery at that time - they didn't even write down what size or type band I had installed) are having problems similar to mine....And I have a big problem with the Chapman office charging an additional charge to go in there...come on!....

I had a lap band from Dr. Owens after I was referred by my doctors office. He seemed very knowledgable and well spoken. His future patients can feel comfortable that he really know what he's doing. He is very straightforward and clear in discussing the risks of surgery. There is nothing i didnt like about him
