I love my surgeon! He is warm and comfortable and yet can crack a joke. He was very down to earth and made me very comfortable during the consult. I work at the hospital I'm having my surgery done and I could not have picked a better surgeon to do my procedure. I'm very impressed at how professional yet warm and compassionate everyone is. I wasn't sure at one point if I had fallen through the cracks and not made all the appointments I was supposed to or submitted the right paperwork. I was immediately reassured that I had and we were on track. rnrnDr Schwartz definately knows what he's doing. It felt very good that he made it a point that they will be following me for life.. So I should have no worries down the road. I think he has VERY high surgical competence and his bedside manner is warm and caring.
My first impression of Dr. Schwartz was that he was very professional. I have only seen him one time so far so I cannot comment further at this time. He came HIGHLY recommended by several people I know that have had surgery by him. The staff at HealthEast Bariatric are great-they are enthusiastic, helpful and caring. They know the answers to my questions. Mary, the insurance specialist, is well informed and VERY helpful. The program is VERY thorough and requires A LOT of prep, research and follow-up. They really want you to know what is involved in the decision to have weight loss surgery and make sure you are clear that it is a TOOL not THE ANSWER. I have been to appointments of all types including dietician, mental health and even physical therapy! I have been required to attend support groups for post and pre-op patients which I find are a GREAT tool to answer questions. Dr. Schwartz has had the surgery himself and he does specify that it has risks as well as rewards. I believe in his surgical competence (as told by friends) and I hope is bedsice manner is equal to his skills. I look forward to the extensive aftercare and help with this surgery and I am pleased to have chosen this clinic!
I absolutely love my surgeon, Dr. Michael Schwartz. I had my surgery on September 10 and am doing wonderful! He was able to do it without opening me up, something I really thought would have to happen! He was so kind and gentle, while also stern and strict with me through this process.rnrnHe has allowed me enough time in all of this to really learn about myself and to make the changes that I had to to make this a complete success. I feel so super and the weight is just falling off. I am exercising almost every single day and I feel super! rnrnI love the fact that he and his team will follow me for life and they have a very comprehensive and supportive, and strict, program. It will definitely keep me on track for the rest of my life. rnrnI would say that surgical competence and bedside manner are both very important and Dr. Schwartz has them both. He is very strict and you see that first, but he balances it with kindness and compassion. He is strict as he wants to make sure you are serious and can do this.
Dr. Schwartz is direct and to the point. He is compassionate and caring and a positive thinker. He genuinely cares about the well-being of the patient and wants you to succeed. He helped me get through the complications I experienced and didn't hesitate to see that I received the best care possible. I would recommend him without qualification. Minneapolis Bariatric Surgeons is a great group with a very complete program for bariatric patients.
My first impression of him was that he was \"no nonsense\" and told everything like it was. My second impression was that he genuinely cared about obese people and wanted to help them as much as he could. He went to bat for me at every turn. I can't say enough about him. His staff was well organized and very professional. At the time I had my RNY (2003) the wait for a two-doctor open RNY was about 11 months and oh, what a wait that was! That was the hardest thing about the surgery was the initial paperwork and wait for an opening. I know there is a better timeframe for operations now - and I praise God for that! He emphasizes aftercare, but doesn't stress it out. Surgical competence is bar none in Minnesota - he's the best there is. Bedside manner was wonderful for me - maybe not as wonderful for the nurses.
When I first met Dr Schwartz he looked like a nice father person. He was very honest with me and my family. He spoke directly to my family to let them know that I may have been the one who was having the surgery but that they were also involved and it would affect them as well. I left his office knowing what I wanted to do and understanding any risks. I felt that he was direct and did not miss a thing. He ordered special testing and said that if I did not have it done I would not be able to have the surgery. He did not candy coat anything and totally expected me to do my share of the work. He told me that the true success of this surgery was within me and that I was the most important tool. He was merely giving me some type of an aide which would help me out. But he also stressed that if it worked, or did not work, hinged on me and only me. During my initial appointment he told me not to gain an ounce, but whent the actual surgery date arrived I had gained 4 pounds. He was not happy. I felt like a little kid who had let my parent down. He was not afraid to tell me that he was disappointed with me and that he thought we had had a deal. After the surgery he met with me again and we talked abou the weight gain and how I now needed to take charge and be responsible. He said that he gave me a tool to help with my weight loss and he expected me to use it carefully. He ended our discussion with a handshake and "I expect to see you forever." I felt better and promised to follow him orders to the Nth degree. He was thorough in explaining what I needed to do and he told me that I could contact him at any time with questions. He said that if he could not be reached someone in his office would be able to help me. My overall experince was good. I liked the way Dr. Schwartz was direct with me, I wouldn't want a doctor who would be anything but that! His staff were professional and have also been able to answer any of my questions. I am truly in awe with the post-op hospital staff. I cannot say enough about them. They were all great!! They explained things to me and made me feel very much at ease, even though I was a little scared and hurting. I know that 100% positive reviews aren't always true...but I cannot think of one thing I did not like. Dr. Schwartz may have been hard on one for the weight gain but I needed it. He was always honest wiht me and I like that in a person. He made me think and realize how important follow up was and will be. He understood what I neede to hear and helped me. Everything that I have said is my personal impression of Dr. Schwartz based upon my personal experience with him.
