He is a quiet man. With genuine concern for his patients. He listens. I still feel a year after the surgery that he is a very caring, responsive Doctor. His staff is very supporative, several of them have undergone the weight loss surgery themselves. The thing I like least about Dr. Wood is that he only does the surgery in Detroit and I didn't care for the hospital. He does offer support groupsbut, again they are in Detroit. He filled me in on all of the risk of the surgery including the fact that I still have to be careful of what I eat, because even this is no promise for a lifetime. Weight can be regained if your not careful. Overall I think Dr. Wood is really great and would recommend him to anyone wanting the surgery. Like I said though I didn't care for the hospital. Maybe that was just the fact that I could smell microwave popcorn being made in the nurses lounge. You all know how good that smell is if your a popcorn lover. The nurses were a little less then compassionate. I heard they didn't like fat people. Oh well, It's us that pays their bills.
He is very compassionate, sincere and understanding. You can talk to him freely and feel he cares about you. His office staff is wonderful. He works with Dr. James Sapala who is also the Best! Aftercare is good. I have been back twice and he is following up - making sure I take my vitamins and exercising and eating properly. He and Dr. Sapala explained the risks and I have not had any complications. Their overall rating is EXCELLENT! nEGATIVE COMMENT: The scar is ugly and the post-op pain was almost unbearable - but I'm feeling fine now.
I was very impressed by Dr. Wood and all of his staff. They answered all of my questions before I even had a chance to ask them. Dr. Wood went over the risks and complications and how they try to keep those from happening. He said with my age and health he expected me to bounce back pretty well. I saw 5 different people on my first consultation. The patient advocate, nurse, surgeon, billing coordinator and the nutritionist. All were wonderful and informative. I can't see ANY way that my appointment could have been any better. I was sure I wanted the surgery BEFORE. Now nothing is stopping me! I would give them a 10 on a scale from 1-10. They were great.
I think that my surgeon is the best out there I am predudice since to me he gave me a second chance to a better happier life. His staff rates pretty good but i guess like everyone they also have their bad days.
I am 6 months post-op and so far I have no complains they have a great support group that I have been working on making even better and they are always there to answer any question I have had.
I waited in the waiting room for a really long time, but other than that, I was very impressed with Dr. Wood. He answered all of my questions and was very understanding about my concerns. He really seemed interested in helping me.
He does require an h.pylori test and a psychological evaluation, though. I'd rather take a beating than pay for a psych eval!
