DR MICHAEL BONO IS HIGHLY SKILLED AT HIS JOB.. HE ONLY DOES THE BARIATRIC SURGERY AND HAS BEEN DOING THEM FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND HAS DONE AFEW HUNDRED SURGERIES.
HE IS A VERY STRAIGHT FORWARD PERSON WHO HOLDS NO PUNCHES AND WILL NOT BABY YOU.. HE IS COMPLETELY HONEST.. HE WAS A BIT INTIMIDATING TO ME AT FIRST(ME BEING A BIT SENSITIVE) --HE COMES OFF AS QUITE OBNOXIOUS AND NEEDS TO LEARN HOW TO TREAT HIS PATIENTS WITH RESPECT..
AFTER I WENT TO MY FIRST SUPPORT MEETING I SAW THE SENSE OF HUMOR THAT HE HAS & I WAS NOT INTIMATED ANY MORE..BUT, DO NOT EXPECT TO SEE THAT HUMOR IN THE OFFICE--HE IS STRICTLY A PROFESSIONAL AND A THINKER--HE STUDIES YOU...HE TESTS YOU TO MAKE SURE YOU ARE DEAD SERIOUS ABOUT HAVING THE SURGERY.
HIS NURSE JANE IS VERY VERY BUSY(PERHAPS TOOO BUSY) GETTING PEOPLE READY FOR INSURANCE APPROVAL AND THEIR SURGERY..DO NOT EXPECT A QUICK CALL BACK WHEN YOU CALL AND LEAVE A MESSAGE FOR JANE TO CALL YOU.............SHE NEVER CALLS BACK!!!!!!

He is a great doctor and guy. He goes above and beyond the call. He has great professionalism and a sense of humor!! He is involved in your care from the getgo and gets to the bottom of any problems that may arise. He is THE doctor you want since you will be seeing him for the rest of your life for checkups and any problems that may arise. Since I had to pick someone to see me at my worst, he was the guy to pick!!! He takes care of your pain and is relatively easy to get an appointment with when you need to get in quick!! His preop workup is very thorough and his program is extremely well thoughtout, it has all the pieces of the puzzle. You have Janie, his bariatric coordinator, Amy the dietician, and a thorough workup as well as the great hospital, GHHA.
I would and DO reccommend him to everyone I know and those who ask me about my surgery experience!!!
Thank you Dr Bono~!~

I was nervous about meeting with him at first because I was coming from another surgeon who I had known for years but was now no longer participating with my insurance and I kind of felt like I was betraying him. But from the minute I met Dr. Bono I knew I made the right decison. He was so cool and not bad looking either! He has a great personality and was with me every step of the way. I didn't have to guess about anything he tells you just like it is. He has great staff, Jane is the absolute best !!! They have a great dietician too. I had no worries going in and no complications coming out. I'd do it again in a heartbeat but only with Dr. Bono! On surgical competence and bedside manner I'd rate him a 10 all around. My mom said everything happens for a reason and I 100% believe It.

I met with Dr. Bono today for 2 hours him and his Nurse Jane explained everything anyone could want to know. They require a lifetime committment and aftercare with him.

I believe I made the right decision with choosing Dr. Bono for my surgery, he does seem to be young ( I may be getting old), however, he is very professional and a pleasure to speak with.

My surgeon will be Dr. Bono (Hazleton,PA). My consult went very well. He is very knowledgable and is more than happy to answer questions. He does expect certain things from his patients to prep them for surgery...he is strict that way. He has good reasons.. he wants an uncomplicated surgery just as much as the patient does. In this aspect I admire him for being the way he is. He knows what is best for me prior to surgery, and if that involves rules or restrictions, then so be it.He is very thorough...I was very surprised at all the consults I had to endure. I know it's just to make sure I am in the best health possible before I go under the knife...and that's OK with me. It's kind of reassuring to know he is taking every precaution possible. His nurse Jane is just wonderful! She makes all the consult appts. for you and is available if you have any questions/cocerns even after the consult. They don't rush you through the consult, either. They take the time to answer any questions you have plus make sure you understand the information that he and Jane go over with you. He even has a continuation of his program after the surgery. He doesn't just leave you hanging wondering what to do next. I like that part of it. So many doctors just cut you and ship you out...never to be seen again. He is very informative...including the risks that are involved. He went into complete detail and asked if I understood the level of risk involved with the surgery. I guess it kind of made me a little anxious to face the possibility of a major complication or even death...but I liked that he didn't sugarcoat anything. He was very straightforward and factual. He got my respect just on that point alone. He appears to have a good bedside manner...I guess I won't really know until he does the surgery, but by then who cares? Let me just say I am very anal when it comes to doctors. I am very picky and there have been times where I didn't like the doctor for whatever reason and never went back. Obviously I finished all the consults...so draw your own conclusion. He has been doing this 10 years (if I am not mistaken)so apparently he has made a lot of patients happy. The point that I am at right now in my journey...I would DEFINITELY recommend him (along with Jane) to anyone who was looking into surgery and needed a surgeon!

My first visit was with Dr. Bono was a lucky break to start with. The day I called to schedule an appointment was a day they had a cancellation. I was thrilled to get right in. The doctor was very informative and thorough in his discussion. His nurse Jane is sooo extremely helpful. She sets up everything for you and answers any and all questions. Dr. Bono tells you like it is without any sugar coating and reminds you to stay realistic about the risks involved. ... got to respect that.

He was rearing to go.

He still seems to me like a get up and go doctor.

Very helpful and curtious.

Nothing really.

He is no nonsence kind of a guy.

Very much, also about support groups for before and after surgery for the whole family not just the patient.

I guess.

Very down to earth, he let me know what the risk are in no nonsense way.

Excellent

Both are great.

Dr. Bono and his staff are awesome! I was taken aback by how young he looks, and his enthusiasm is intense! He talks so fast!!!

My first impression was that he knows his stuff, and he is totally understand the obese and the desire to be 'normal'.

He answered all my questions and his associate, his obesity specialist, Jane RN, is fabulous! She has the world on her shoulders as she handles EVERYTHING about each of our surgeries! She avails herself to you for any questions or problems you might come across...and she knows what she's talking about as she has been through this herself..three years ago.

If you are considering going with Dr. Bono...go for it. They seem to have it all together and the process is so far, running quite smoothly.
