Dr. Pleatman is a wonderful, experienced and skillful surgeon. He knows what he's doing, and has exceptionally knowledge in his field of bariatric surgery. I was very impressed, after surgery, Dr. Pleatman asked to see me in a private conference room where he then showed me the portion (85%) of the stomach that was removed during the surgery. The staple line along the stomach was precise and clean, no leaks! Thank God!
Dr. Pleatman performed a VSG on my son 3 days ago and already my son is back to feeling normal, with the exception of just a little soreness in the stomach area. But in all, he's doing great, thank God.
I would highly recommend this surgeon to anyone who is interested in having a weight loss surgery procedure. Dr. Pleatman practices out of St. Joseph's Mercy of Oakland Hospital, located in Pontiac, Michigan. The hospital and its processional staff (doctors, nurses and volunteers) are wonderful! I am very thankful for the great care they took of my son.

I had the Gastric Sleeve surgery around 6 weeks ago and I have lost 39 pounds so far. I look and feel fantastic! I am so glad I made the decision to have the surgery. Dr. Pleatman and his staff were awesome. I was an out of state patient, they made me feel comfortable and relaxed. Dr. Pleatman was very informative and professional. He is an excellent surgeon and I would recommend him to anyone thinking about having barbaric surgery. Dr. Pleatman, I truly appreciate you! You changed my life for the better, I will always be grateful.
April 2, 2013 I weighed 297 lbs
May 12, 2013 I weigh 258 lbs
Goal 185 lbs!!! I am well on my way!!! :-)
Dr. Pleatman is GREAT. Gastric Sleeve surgery is GREAT. My wife had a lap band installed by a different doctor about 5 years ago. It never worked right -- either too tight or too loose. A second doctor said maybe it slipped, so my wife had a new lap band installed by this second doctor. Same issues. So, we were very depressed. She wanted to lose weight for medical reasons (had hypertension, pre-diabetes when at her higher weight). In desperation, we learned about Dr. Pleatman and gastric sleeve surgery. We are self pay but decided to spend the money and roll the dice. He was great (I read some patient comments that said his bedside manner was not the best, but we found his bedside manner to be great). The surgery has been very successful. My wife has had the recovery and progress exactly as "promised". Surgery was in late Feb (about 6 weeks ago). We could not be happier. We strongly recommend this surgery and, most importantly, Dr. Pleatman -- he is very experienced with this surgery.
I needed a self-pay Bari surgeon and 1) an experienced laparoscopic surgeon, 2) a full service, accredited hospital, 3) available office staff and follow-up. Dr Pleatman has over 400 sleeves under his belt and plenty of general surgical experience and Doctor's hospital has an icu, resp. therapy, good-attentive nurses and Clean, Quiet single rooms. I was totally satisfied with the surgery and consider it money well spent. You will be in good hands with Pleatman, I would never go out of the country for major abdominal surgery. I'm a family doc with over 25 yrs experience (and a fair amount of foreign travel)
Very skilled surgeon. Rapidly got me in for revision to vsg from lap band. I was having pain and could not eat solid foods anymore so it was a relief to have the revision in a timely manner.
Office is very good dealing with out of town patients. Everything went smoothly. Very good pre-op and post op programs.
Dr Pleatman is knowledgeable, experienced, and compassionate. I highly recommend him and the vsg.
Good doctor! no frills... knowledgeable! I went to MI from CT for surgery and it was well worth it... great office staff also! I would highly recommend him!

I had my VSG done on 10/25/12. Cannot impress upon those who happen to read this how happy I am that I chose Dr. Pleatman. I was an out of state/ self pay patient and had never met Dr. Pleatman until one day prior to surgery. Dr. Pleatman and his staff could not have been more accomodating and professional. Dr's Hospital of Michigan was also a good experience with very caring nurses and staff. Dr. Pleatman's package price for self pay was very attractive to me as well as the "one stop shopping" element of having surgeon and hospital already set up together.
I am just 4 days out from surgery and other than expected pain from surgery doing well. I would recomment Dr. Pleatman to anyone that I know.
i had surgery on 9/4 and due to my falling the night post op i had some complications dr.pleatmann was always avalible and greatly showed that he really cared about his patients i went into surgery again 9/7 and im back home today. i would higly recommend dr.pleatmann .He is a doctor that dosnt sugar codes anything he will be right to the point.
Dr. Pleatman performed my VSG on 7/27/12, and my surgery has been 100% successful thus far with no complications! My scars are healing and I have no pain, and have been able to exercise (including sit-ups) within the week following my surgery. My first impression of the office and staff is a caring patient environment that puts patients' needs ahead of most everything else. Rachel, his office assistant, has been wonderful on the phone and in-person, and has helped me to learn so much about the surgery. Also, I met with Adele (patient coordinator) prior to surgery, and she was super-helpful in answering my questions regarding diet and mobility. Dr. Pleatman is very straightforward, kind, and no-nonsense, which I appreciate as weight-loss surgery (WLS) should be this way. He stressed to me that WLS is only a tool which should be supported with exercise, healthful eating, and outside support. I know others have posted regarding his bedside manner, but frankly, I have plenty of good friends...it is more than appropriate for him to act as a surgeon, which is his role in one's weight loss process. He is a top-notch professional who met individually with my spouse after the surgery to let him know about the surgery and my health.
Also, my experience with Doctors' Hospital of Michigan was great...the nurses, anesthesiologists, and other staff were professional, friendly, and energetic. I was grateful to be in a quiet hospital where patient care is stressed. All in all, I am glad I chose Dr. Pleatman to assist me in my life-changing weight loss.

I have been researching the VSG for about 3 years now. I am only 17 and unfortunately have battled with obesity all my life. My parents medical insurance does not cover WLS and we found Dr. Pleatman's cash price very affordable. Therefore, my journey began on July 9, 2012. I have nothing negative to say about the experience I had with Dr. Pleatman and Doctors Hospital of Michigan. Dr. Pleatman was very nice but most importantly very intelligent and very well educated on the VSG. I could not ask for a better surgeon. I live and Florida so quite frankly I did not know what to expect. I relied a lot on previous patients reviews. Dr. Pleatman was amazing but so were the staff at the hospital. Everyone were very attentative and very pleasant. The hospital an old hospital but it had everything need for a safe surgery. They started me on IV's with antibiotic and put on sequential ted hoses (to avoid blood clots)right before surgery. The hoses only came off upon discharge. They also give you lovenox shots to prevent clotting. I was impressed with everyone and everything. My mom spent the night with me also and they were very accommodating to her too. I am on day 11 and I have lost 21 pounds. Thank you Dr. Pleatman for a great surgery. My incisions are basically healed and barely noticeable. I can't thank you enough.
