Marcus Miller Bariatric Surgeon M.D.
I WAS IN POOR HEALTH WHEN I WENT TO SEE DR, MILLER. IN FACT, I WAS TOLD I PROBABLY WOULD ONLY MAKE IT ANOTHER 4 YRS.UNLESS I TRIED THE SURGERY. HE TOLD ME MY GOAL SHOULD BE 110#. I HAVE LOST 115#, AND IN BETTER HEALTH THAN I HAVE BEEN IN 20 YRS. NO MORE INSULIN,AND BLOOD PRESSURE IS NORMAL. IT MEANS THE WORLD TO ME. I AM 65 YRS. OLD AND I CAN'T IMAGINE HOW SOMEONE YOUNGER WOULD FEEL. MY SON IS 42 AND IN REALLY POOR HEALTH. DR. MILLER DID HIS SURGERY THIS MORNING. I AM SO GRATEFUL.
I have noting but EXCELLENT things to say about my Dr.rnrnThe thing that I like the most about Dr. Miller is that he takes time to LISTEN to me. Alot of Dr.'s just talk. Dr. Miller actually listens to me and that means alot.rnrnOk onto answer the questions on this list.rnrn1. My first impression of him was that he was very polite and thorough.rn2. No my impression has not changed. Actually it has gotten even better.rn3. His staff is very friendly and down to earth. They make me feel very comfortable. Especially is Medical Assistant Kathy. She is great!rn4. I can't think of anything that I don't like about Dr. Miller.rn5. Future patients should know that you will be in good hand with Dr. Miller.rn6. He does emphasize aftercare. He tells you like it is. Obey the rules! If you do you will do well! That simple.rn7. The aftercare program is FANTASTIC! Mount Carmel has 3 support groups and a NUT onstaff to answer ALL of your questions.rnThey have an emotional support group, general support group for bariatric patients and an nutritional support group. I believe that these support groups will be KEY to my success.rn8.Dr. miller did advise me of the risks of surgery. He put everything in plain english for me to understand. I liked that.rn9. I would give Dr. Miller and EXCELLENT rating!!!!!rn10. I would say that both his surgical competence and bedside manner are GREAT!!rnrnSo far my experience has been great!!!
What was your first impression of him/her? I liked him immediately.rnHow did your impression change over time? Stayed the same for over 2 yrs now. He's cool and very patient friendly.rnHow would you describe his/her office staff? We got off to a rough start. I had to do a lot of management and follow up to get things done for me. I felt that I should have been paid for the work I did to arrange my own appointments, follow up on paperwork, etc. In the end, even with the hassles, it was worth it. You have to be very organize to get positive results in a timely manner. I excel at that, but not everyone does. Oh well. I can be very driven when I want something done. My advice is to know exactly who is doing what, when and how they are doing and keep notes, and you'll be fine.rnWhat did you like least about him/her? I only hate the location on the westside of town because I live on the eastside.rnWhat should future patients know about him/her? He is very good. Do what he says, and your results will the expected barring any uncontrollable factors. Control what you can to minimizee setbacks and risks. [That is good advice for anything in life, not just Bariatric Surgery!]rnHow much does he/she emphasize aftercare? He is very passionate relying on you to do what you should to help yourself be better. I'm glad he was not a crutch. I needed an expert who gave me advice, not another crutch.rnDoes he/she have a structured aftercare program? YesrnHow did he/she address the risks of surgery? Matter of factly and I really liked that. I felt he did not try to glamorize it. We set realistic goals, and I made a mental notes to prove that I could do better than goal. BTW: I did do better LOL!rnHow would you rate him/her overall? On a scale of 1(worse) - 10 (best), he is a 10.rnWhich is better, surgical competence, bedside manner, or are both great? Both are great.
Dr Miller is a wonderful and caring Dr.
At first i thought he seemed "cocky" but i was WRONG! He is very kind and has more compassion than any other Dr. Ive met. His office staff is very caring and down to earth. They are very very funny and make you feel at ease.
Dr. Miller seems very strict with the after diet (much more than others ive heard) but he says he has his reasons! I trust him very much.
He told me all the risks of surgery before and explained everything in detail.
I would say he is one of the best Dr's ever, and his surgical competence AND bedside manner is EXCELLENT! You can tell its not "just a job" for him, he truly cares about his patients and wants them to succeed!
1-19-2004 I met with Doctor Marcus Miller today seems like a very nice guy. He is a little young but seems to know what he is talking about and seems to care about the success of his patience. He answered all my questions and had no problem explaining them to me in detail.
The office staff seem a little busy but were very professional. Make sure that if you get information from them you also go to there website and download the information they don't send.
1-29-04 Called today to check status of my insurance and was told they still haven't sent it out yet and that it might take 2 more weeks before they do. 3-1-04 Talked to Carries today she said she sent the paper work to the insurance on 2-27-04. Well today is 3-2-04 contacted insurance and they said I was approved and the letters are in the mail. 3-8-04 Talked to Carrier today and she said that she has recieved my approval letter and sent it to Dr. Miller to sign off on and then we will set a date. 3-23-04 Talked to Carrie today got a date of 5-3-04. Its going to seem like forever. But at least I have a date to look forward too.
