My first impression about Dr Hiler was pleasing. I felt very comfortable with him. As time went on, I become more comfortable with him because he took very good care of me. The office staff are very friendly people and they were very caring and helpful. There's nothing not to like about Dr. Hiler and the staff, I just love them all. Dr Hiler retired December, 2003, he will be greatly missed. Dr. Madan has taken over and I haven't had the chance to meet him, but I'm quite sure that he will carry on the great reputation that the center has. The center does have a structured care and a support group that meets once a month. Dr Hiler lists all the risks of this surgery. I was full aware of all the risks. I just prayed about it and God carried me through. I would rate Dr Hiler a 10 ( being the highest) because he really took care of me. I beieve that surgical competence and bedside manner are both great.

Dr. Hiler and Dr. Cowan performed my surgery, but I never saw Dr. Cowan after the initial office visit. I consider Dr. Hiler to be my surgeon. He was the only physician I saw in the hospital and since. He has a wonderful bedside manner, and has been very supportive all along the way since the surgery. He will be performing the tummy tuck and hernia repair as well, and I am very happy to be in his care. If I had any complaint EVER, it would be that Dr. Hiler was so busy, that his office hours were never on time and you would wait all afternoon for an appointment. That has changed since Dr. Medan has joined him.

He is now performing all his surgeries at the Regional Medical Center in Memphis, in a special bariatric suite set up just for him and his associate, Dr. Medan, who performs the laproscopic surgeries now. (Not available when I had my surgery.) I am told the nursing staff at the Med was hand picked by Dr. Hiler and trained on how to deal with the issues obese patients face in the hospital.

His office staff has been very helpful, and in fact helped me with the insurance side of things a great deal. While I made a pest of myself, they were very patient listening to my fears and concerns... and that was great.

I contacted my surgeon's office to schedule a consult but I have to complete a surgery packet before the consult can be scheduled. The packet costs $25 and it contains a CDrom, information about the surgery and doctors in the practice and a history form that I have to complete about myself and, etc. I will let you know my progress as it progresses.

dr. hiler is a careful, calm kind and considerate surgeon. i found him to be humble and very compassionate. totally non-abrasive which is unusual as a surgeon. it was not a test of wills. he listened to me and answered my questions carefully. told me that i asked many more questions because i had done my research and was obviously smart and knew myself and my body well. all of this made it extremely easy for me to work with him. i feel the same way about him now as i did then.
iniatially the office, obesity wellness clinic at ut bould was office managed by a witch who has since been replaced by a wonderful manager. the other woman made everyones' life a living hell, things are the opporsite now.
ut bould is in the process of restructuring its obesity wellness clinic into the office for minimally invasive wls surgery. there is a new doc who has replaced dr. george cowan and he will be doing lapascopic surgery. i am unaware at this time whether dr. hiler will be learning the new techniques or whether he will handle just open rnys, as far as i know he will still be following up with all of his old patients as well as most or all of dr. cowans.
aftercare is addressed well, there is a monthly support group that is not surgeon specific and at each meeting there is a presentation on relevant topics such as behavior modification, nutrition etc. one or both surgeons are present as is office staff and they take and answer questions. there is food, fellowship and support in abundance.
i found that they answered questions about the risks of surgery truthfully and had good statistics.
i would rate dr. hiler as an excellent surgeon and all around fine individual.
this guy had it all, surgical competence and a really soothing bedside manner. i'd say he has it all.
i have to say that i was favorably impressed by our new young surgeon as well after hearing him speak at our last support group meeting. he seems kind and exceptionally thoughtful about the whole process. i was impressed and i have to say normally i am a hard sell.
i do want to say that my initial contact with this group was not pleasant because of the original office staff but that the problem thankfully has been rectified in a most positive way. i am a little dissappointed that it is taking so long for them to get the lapiscopic program going and a little fearful that with moving the offices to new digs, new staff and new doc that some of us oldtimers will be a little discombobulated but then again everything changes and sometimes for the better. i think it will all be for the better in this case. our support group is so strong that i feel as if it will only get stronger as more and more laproscopic posties start joining. i am looking forward to the being a jollier crowd who hoefully have easier recoveries.

I met Dr. Hiler on Feb. 5th for the first time. He seemed very knowledgeable and caring. I did have a 3 hour wait in his office but was kind of glad because it gave me a chance to meet some patients who had been through surgery already. They relieved my fears and gave me the encouragement to go ahead with the surgery. The staff was friendly enough and Jennifer (the pre-op nurse) is extremely friendly and helpful. She is very busy but has called me as late as 8:00pm on occasion. I have another appointment with Dr. Hiler tommorrow. Overall, I think of Dr Hiler as very competent and the staff as good.

Well, I made my appointment for Dr.Cowan but they assign me to see Dr.Lloyd Hiler. He seemed very nice. I don't know if he or Dr. Cowan will be performing my surgery. Well, now I know that Dr. Hiler will be the man! He seems very nice, freindly and busy!!! Everyone in the office was great. When you have your appointment look foward to a wait,so it will be great to bring someone you can play a card game with to pass the time. Or you can bring a kniting needle, that book that you always wanted to finish. Because you may be in for a long wait. I didn't mind waiting, because I know he was looking after one of his patients.

I attended the seminar a couple weeks ago held by Dr Hiler and that was my first impression on him. He appeared to be a very nice, caring man, (with beautiful gray hair). I had my first consult with him today and I was a little disappointed. I seem to have been rushed and didn't get to ask all the questions I had. I had to wait in the little room for almost two hours for him so I guess that didn't start out good either. I must confess, I did hear another patient in the clinic that seemed to be in distress so I figured he had to spend a lot of time with her and put him behind. I have a good friend that had surgery by Dr Hiler two months ago and has been very well pleased with him, so I am not going in feeling completely negative. He did not mention any after care, risk of surgery, or much of anything explaining the surgery. I did ask couple questions, he must figure he covered most of it in the seminar. I must say, his office staff was very, very, nice. I had read several places that his staff was not the best, but I cannot say anything negative against any of them.

Dr. Lloyd Hiler jr. saw me.
My first impression of him was that He was a very Very nice man, and was through in asking questions and the physical exam. His Staff, by the way is also Dr. Cowan's, was very friendly and helpful. They asked any questions I had promptly.
I will get to see the Dr. again after my ins coverage is aproved.

I saw Dr. Hiler for my initial office visit, and I have just learned that he will be my surgeon since my original surgeon, Dr. Cowan, is on sabbatical at this time.

Dr. Hiler was quite friendly and had a good bedside manner on my office visit. I asked questions about their RNY vs. others like Fobi Pouch and thought he was informative.

I have not discussed all the questions I have concerning the surgery because I wasn't expecting him to be my surgeon, but I have an endo scheduled and I am sure I will be able to talk to him at that time.
