I had a chance to meet Dr. Khaitan on 12-12-05 she is very nice and professional she gave me the same homework she gave all her other patients lose 10lbs and exercise one hour per day I have been trying to follow her directives it is hard to go walking where I live so I have joined the YMCA I am looking forward to meeting her requirements.
I thought Dr. Khaitan was great. She was nice very professionaland very in depth with explanations of surgery. This is the first time I have met with Dr. Khaitan so my opinion hasn't changed. The office is very neat but also very busy. The time I went there was a pretty long wait. However, the office staff is very nice and do their bestin keeping you informed. She is only there on Mondays so that's why it gets busy. Also because Emory is a teaching hospital, she has alot of students and that makes you feel like you are giving something back. The thing I least liked was the wait time. We had to wait almost 2 hours. You should know that Dr. Khaitan likes when here patients try there hardest to lose weight before and after surgery. She will schedule your surgery faster if you lose 10 pounds once you have met all of the other requirments. She really emphasizes aftercare as does the rest of the Emory Bariatrics team. They have there own nutritionists that you will see before and after surgery. They have support groups that meet every week. They do have a structered aftercare program and so far it sounds good, like there is no way you could fall through the cracks. They seem to be on your team in helping you to optimize your weight loss goals. She addressed the risks with surgery and explained certain ones in depth. However it was more informative and not to scare you. She did make sure that those were risks that not only you but your family are willing to risk as well. Overall I would give Dr. khaitan and the rest of Emory Bariatrics a 5 star rating and I would recomend them to anyone, they are great!
To me, surgical competence is of course better because you don't want someone in there that has mediocre surgical skills. We all feel that we deserve the best of the best. After all we are trusting these surgeons with our lives. However, bedside manner also matters to me too. Although not as important it is still a factor. If you can laugh with your doctor and feel more comfortable with him/her it can help make even a bad experience seem not so bad.
I liked her from the start. She was very informative & to the point(no sugar-coating). She gave me her expectations from me, potential risks & steps to begin the process. I've only had one visit w/ her thus far & am currently awaiting approval from my secondary. I am very pleased w/ her so far. 06-26-05
Dr. Khaitan is a very caring, experienced surgeon. She has a very structured approach to WLS. She performed a Lap RNY on me on May 9th. Prior to the surgery, she had a very strict regime which needed to be followed. Everything was done in order and was scheduled by her staff. At times, her staff appeared to be disorganized. I had to follow-up with them several times to get everything in order. Once everything was scheduled, however, (pre-op testing, meeting with the nutritionist, final meeting with Dr. Khaitan) it was smooth sailing. She did a great job! I wouldn't hesitate recommending her to anyone who was looking for a competent surgeon!
