My impression of Dr. Sprunger was that this was the first doctor that I have ever met to understand that this is something we need help with. This is something that will get better- diets work for people who need to loose a little amount of weight. But being so far ahead and so beaten down by my weight- I need a tool to help me. Scottsdale Bariactric is an amazing facility. The people are all specially trained in this area- all the nurses and CNAs included. The whole level in the hospital is special for these procedures. The chairs are bigger, the beds are wider- you feel normal. The only slight complaint I would have is that it is hard to be flexible with Blackstone/Sprunger just because they are so wanted and pursued by so many. When they set your appointment its hit or miss. They are extremely knowledgeable in aftercare. They have a nurse on call 24/7 if you ever have any questions. You get books and books of suggestions and directions. Not to mention the seminars are very impressive- you can watch them online! They do stress the risk of the surgery. And with the severe complications I had with the surgery- Dr. Sprunger impressed me even more. He cancelled all other surgeries and did not go home for 48 hours until they found what was wrong. And when he did- they fixed it right way. Overall, Sprunger and his staff are the ones that put the standards high.
I honestly cannot say enough about Dr Sprunger. He was new to the practice I was going to, and I was concerned I had the \"new\" dr. rnrnFortunately, I got to meet both drs - Dr Robin Blackstone who started the practice performed Lap Band Surgery on my husband, and two weeks later I was having RNY with Dr Dr Sprunger. It's not right, but it's natural to compare. rnrnBoth of their skill sets are obviously remarkable - I would trust each of them. But Dr Sprunger has a magical bedside manner that I cannot believe I would personally find in anyone else. Even some of the nurses in the hospital commented on this. I felt so comfortable with him, he put me at ease while still going over absolutely everything I needed to know. rnrnHis \"post surgical hug\", right before I was discharged from the hospital, was the best part!
I believe that I am one of the first people here on this board in Arizona to have Dr. Sprunger do their surgery. I was initially very nervous because I was supposed to have my surgery with Dr. Blackstone in the same office, but was reassigned when Dr. Sprunger came to the practice. Turns out I had nothing to worry about. He is very empathetic and thorough, at my preop appointment he spent an hour with me answering all of my questions and making me feel very comfortable with him as a surgeon. My surgery went perfectly and the hospital that he operates in is amazing. Aftercare is stressed as part of the office he is a part of and the nutrition program is emphasized and extremely important. I thought he had both great surgical competence and a great bedside manner and I would wholeheartedly recommend him to anybody.
