I was referred to Dr. Reavis by a team of specialists who were trying to help me with my severe GERD and ultimately came to the conclusion that I needed surgery to stop it. When I consulted with Dr. Reavis, he and his fellow spnt nearly 2 hours with me discussing all the options. I never felt rushed or like he didn't have time to deal with me and all my questions. One option for me was something called a fundoplication, but because I was also obese he recommended a revision from my lap band (which had stopped working over a year ago) to gastric bypass. I went to another surgeon for a 2nd opinion but ultimately went with Dr. Reavis and cannot tell you how glad I was that I did. My gastric bypass surgery should have been about 3 hours but ended up being 6 1/2 hours due to what Dr. Reavis called "chisel work." He had to chisel apart my stomach, pancreas, and liver where it had eroded around my band. He also ended up having to cut out a part of my stomach due to the damage.
My recovery time was a little longer than other laproscopic surgeries I have had, but ultimately I am completely recovered and feeling GREAT! I was cured of my GERD the day of surgery. I stopped taking SEVEN different medications associated with the GERD that very day. I have not had an incident since, and I tell you, prior to surgery I had been waking up EVERY night for more than a year coughing and vomiting and getting less than an hour of sleep at a time. Acid was literally bubbling out of my nose at night while I tried to sleep. But after surgery? NONE of that. Now I am losing excess weight as an added benefit. He was wonderful to me. His staff have always been helpful and the clinic ensures after surgery support (I attend the twice monthly support groups held.) If you have a choice in your healthcare, choose a doctor with an excellent bedside manner plus excellent skills and an amazing staff. Why not have it all if you can get it all?

From the first consultation I have had nothing but positive interactions with Dr. Reavis and his entire staff. Everything has been so clearly explained, and I've felt extremely well prepared every step of the way. Everything has gone exactly as Dr. Reavis told me it would (or better). Dr. Reavis has a terrific bedside manner, and seems to be genuinely concerned with my well being as a person and a patient. He has been very patient and answered every question I've come up with and thrown his way. His team has been every bit as fantastic and supportive, from his supporting surgeons, his program coordinator, his nutritionist, everyone. The entire staff of the bariatric unit at UCI has been awesome and has not only met all of my expectations, but has exceeded them.rnrnDr. Reavis took the time to explain and address all of the risks of surgery beforehand, and was most concerned with doing what would be best for my health in both the short and long term. There is a very structured aftercare program in place with Dr. Reavis, and I feel like I have a ton of support as a result.rnrnOverall, I have nothing but glowingly positive reviews of Dr. Reavis, and would feel comfortable recommending him to anyone.

OMG!!! ANYONE considering VSG ANYWHERE in the U.S. or have a glimmer of no-confidence feeling in the bariatric team you have chosen, need to come to SoCal and consult with this knowledgeable experienced honest forthright young FANTASTIC SURGEON!!! I live in NewMex, I made the trek (only 3 times pre-op) to UCI to have these BRILLIANT , competent, charismatic TEAM of people work FOR ME and ON me!! I just cannot thank Dr. Reavis and the excellent medical staff in his office enough from pre-op to post op... the follow-through is remarkable. THEY SAVED MY LIFE!!

Oh if you live out of state and choose Dr. Reavis..your PCP can fax all necessary lab follow-ups to Dr. Reavis. He is great at responding to all correspondance directed to him about your after-care. The nutritionalist is XLNT at returning calls and emails as well!!

Dr. Reavis seemed very open and welcoming. He and his staff explained each step of the approval process in detail. so there weren't any surprised...except for the fact I was approved within 24 hours.rnrnThe entire office has been very helpful and kind, and there is a strong emphasis on attending the support groups and continuing aftercare for three years post op.rnrnI'll update further after I have the surgery.rnrn08/29/2008 Dr. Reavis' entire support team is fantastic and I am happy with the results of the surgery. The hospital is older and did not offer private rooms. The shower was in the hallway, not in the room. And you had a different nurse every night, so there was no continuity of care. Even the though the hospital is older it was very clean. rnrnI would strongly recommend Dr. Reavis to anyone considering bariatric surgery. My only problem is Irvine is a long drive from where I live.rnrn
