Dr . Kelvin Higa is a wonderful human being, devoting his life to the reduction of obesity and its related many ills, world wide by sharing his knowledge and skills in teaching other surgeons his technique. He has a fantastic up-beat manner which leaves you feeling that God is great and your life is just beginning to be wonderful. Dr. Higa's nationality is Hawaiian an Japanese.
He has always been available to answer any of my concerns. He expects you to follow his advice and exercise daily. I would rate him as a five star Dr. and surgeon. His surgical competence and bedside manner are tops. Dr. Eric Silverman, his anesthesiologist, should take notice and reform his bedside manner which at present is that of a badger. He is very good at what he does but just too arrogant with patients.
Dr. Higa was an excellent choice! He was very informative and spent more time with us than any Dr ever has. Dr. Higa actually called me on my cellular phone on my way home after my surgery. WOW!! He made sure we understood every possible problem that could arise. He also told me that WLS is not for everyone so think about my decision very carefully. Lori and I worked very hard to get my surgery scheduled as quick as possible, being that I live in Arizona. She was very persistant with my insurance company. I would recommend Dr. Higa to anyone considering WLS. The aftercare program is great, meetings are 1st Monday of the month. The Dr's hold the meetings, again another WOW. I was very pleased from start to finish.
My first impression of Dr. Higa was great. Very knowledgable and sensitive. Kind of quite but as time went on I found he even had a sense of humor. The office staff is very nice but very disorganized. If you don't keep on them you get lost in the shuffle. Also you have to watch your bills from them. My insurance paid and they tried to bill me balances. At my consultation I paid the $l50.00 up front and they kept sending me bills. Dr. Higa trains other physicians all over the world. He is very skilled at doing this surgery and my incisions are so small! He is hard to get an appointment with and it get discouraging. When I was having trouble keeping food and liquid down he was great at getting me care locally to get everything resolved. After two months I had lost 60 lbs and he said "this isn't a contest to see how fast you can lose but how healthy you can be." I would rate him as one of the best. I just wish his office was more organized.
Great guy. Very personable, with a good sense of humor. Higa is confident and professional, yet is able to talk in layman terms.
My impression got better when he personally returned a phone call to my cell phone when I had some concerns about one of the incisions after surgery.
Great staff and office. Everyone seems really concerned about my progress.
No dislikes.
Higa clearly knows his area of expertise.
There is a regularly scheduled after care program with other patients once a week as well as pre-scheduled check-ups.
Dr. Higa FULLY explained all aspects of the surgery, good and bad.
Higa seems to have this area covered. Only one in our town who is able to perform the procedure laproscopically. No scars; No long term recovery. Back to work (lawyer) within 4 days.
All around great surgeon.
Dr. Higa and his staff were always very friendly and seemed genuinely concerned for my health and well-being. He was very accomodating with my scheduling and never made me feel rushed. I chose Dr. Higa because of his extensive experience with Laproscopic RNYs and for his exceptional track record. I had surgery on October 19 and experienced no complications. However, I am confident that had I developed a problem I couldnt have been in better hands.
Dr. Higa's vital charisma and personable warmth communicate his confidence and compassion. His office is organized and pleasant; his staff is professional and kind. My insurance approval took less than two weeks. He spent over an hour talking with me during my consultation, answering all of my questions. He mentioned all of the possible complications of the surgery, including social/psychological. Additionally, when Dr. Higa met my husband at his presentation that evening, he took the time to talk to us both, easing my husband's fears about my upcoming surgery, as well.
