(PRE-OP)my first meeting with Dr Colella was great, I felt so at ease with him, he takes his time and explains the surgery in detail, he was informative and very caring, I was most impressed with all the safety precautions he takes, Brenda is straight forward and to the point, you do what she says and you will be fine with her,Brenda is so knowledgable and I think she is great, she got my approval in less than a week.I will post my post-op after my surgery.
I was first suppose to have my surgery by Dr Williams. After my class however and having a another problem within my abdomen to deal with so I switched over to Dr colella. He was the one I had researched to begin with. I am just glad they could work me into his schedule. He is a very nice and knowlegible Doctor on any and all questions that were asked of him. He has replace Dr. Zemel in his practice. The most important thing I heard was his safety precautions before during and after the surgery. I feel very safe in his hands.
my w.l.s. surgeon dr. joe may have saved me life, short term and long. after a horrible car accident my right hip was destroyed, i gained 150# in 6 months. i could not exercise and with a long term eating problem, i was m.o. at 425#. nerves had me eating constantly as i awaited my w.l.s. gaining another 40# in my last month before w.l.s. dr. joe fast tracked me when he knew i was awaiting another hip surgery. i felt bad i move around others but my situation was critical. those last days before w.l.s. i feared my heart would give out from all the abuse for near 25 years. my day came, dr. joe did a great r.n.y. and i am beginning to feel a second birth coming on.movement are easier, i am off of my blood pressure medicine after only 7 weeks out. anyone who asks, i tell them to look up this web site.. that is all that is needed, when the dr. and his staff began to explain things, i already knew from this web site, but i listened anyway. this very web site in the early days convienced me to have the w.l.s... thank you. when it was brought up to me in the hip surgeon\'S office. i instantly said, \"NO\'!!! then i found this web site, spend days and days, then showed it to my wife, we both said that w,l,s, was my answer.. i want to thank dr. joe, and everyone out there that helped unseen to give me my life back
Dr. Colella is a very kind and gentle soul. He was the surgeon who did my gall bladder surgery, which was done beautifully. Instantly you feel at ease and can tell that's he's very professional and respectful. Brenda is wonderful. She's on point, knowledgable, is straight forward and very caring at the same time. She told me I'd be on a liquid diet for 6 weeks and I still think she's great.
Just called today for appointment, phone skills are great, first appointment in 3 weeks.
8/13/01 Had initial appointment today, was very pleased with office staff. Dr. Coleea appears to be very knowlegeable in his area of expertise. He took the time to explain the surgury, and risks in detail. I left his office today with a firm grasp on what to expect.
8/21/01 Went to pre-op class today, no real suprises, but was nice to get all information in one big bite. Brenda is an ace! She had form done in 24 hrs! Surgury date is 10/10/01.
10/17/01 Surgery went like textbook, I was in and out of the hospital in 5 days!! Very little pain or nausea, in fact I haven't even bothered to get the pain pills the prescribe for you when you are discharged. Incision is healing perfectly, I have been up and around since 5 hours after the surgury. I have never given a blank check endorsemnt for anyone, but in this case I cannot find one bad thing to say. Dr. Colella perfomed a flawless procedure, and this has been my best surgical experience.
I had my initial consult with Dr. Colella a few days ago (Sept. 17) and it went very well. First, I met with Brenda to discuss the paperwork end of it. She was so nice and seemed very competent in what she does. She was a wonderful first impression into that office! After meeting with Brenda, I went on to talk to Dr. Colella. He could not have been any nicer! He really took his time to explain the procedure along with the risks. He answered any and all questions I had and explained after care follow-ups. It is really comforting to know that through such a major, life-changing process that your doctor is so compassionate. I really felt at ease after leaving his office. I feel I am very lucky to be having him and his office staff seeing me through this to help me live a happier and healthier life.
I really liked Dr. Joseph Colella. My first impression was good. He was straight forward with me and didn't pull any punches.
Brenda in his office is wonderful too. Very helpful. He said that I would be a life long patient of his and the more I see him after the surgery the better he feels. I would rate him pretty good at this time.
I had my first appointment with Dr Zemel and his associate. I was happy with my first visit. Brenda his office manager is wonderful. I went to Dr Colella class. He answered all my questions. I was well informed.I liked him. I hope Dr Colella forms a support group for his patients. He said it was on the front burner..I am willing to help with a support group.

Originally, Dr. Zemel was my surgeon. But, with his retirement, I have been re-assigned to Dr. Colella. I was able to meet Dr. Colella for my pre-surgical class. He seems to be a very competent surgeon (time will surely tell). He was extremely nice, and he took the necessary time to answer all questions - and would not leave the room until all questions were answered.
I'll keep everyone updated..........

Well, the surgery is over, and even though I had a few complications - I'm on the road to recovery.
I can't say enough about Dr. Colella. Maybe I'm a little biased, but I wouldn't want anyone else in the world doing my surgery. For being a young guy, he is an excellent surgeon, and he is extremely knowledgable. His "bedside manner" is the best that I have ever witnessed from a doctor. Even though he was extremely busy, he was very cautious & attentitive to my situation. He even called into the hospital on a Sunday while I was in the hospital - just to see how I was doing. Even right before the surgery, he waited with me in the OR prep area to make sure that I was calm, and to make sure that I had all of my questions answered.
I think that Dr. Colella is going to eventually become one of the top WLS Surgeons in the country - that is, if he's not there already.....
