WHERE DO I BEGIN....
DR. SCHOEN IS A GREAT PERSON!! I WAS GIVEN HIS NAME ABOUT 4 MONTHS INTO MY 6 MONTH INSURANCE PLAN. I WAS TOLD THAT MY OTHER SURGEON ISN'T DOING MY SURGERY. I WENT TO GET APPROVED AGAIN BY MY NEW DOCTOR, DR. SCHOEN. I COULDN'T BELEIVE THAT THIS YOUNG, GOOD-LOOKING PERSON IS GOING TO DO A LIFE-CHANGING SURGERY ON ME!!! HE SAT DOWN AND STARTED GOING OVER ALL MY PAPERS THAT I HAD FILLED OUT. HE NOW KNOWS MORE ABOUT ME THAN MY OWN MOTHER DOES!!:) HE IS VERY THOUROUGH!! HE EXPLAINED THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF SURGERIES, THE PLUS AND RISKS WITH EACH. I HAVE HAD 6 ORTHOPEDIC SURGERIES AND NO OTHER DOCTORS HAVE BEEN LIKE DR. SCHOEN WAS. HE THEN FIGURED OUT MY BMI AND TOLD ME THAT I WAS APPROVED AND HE WOULD BE MY SURGEON. YEAH!!!!
NEXT, KELLY ELLIOT THE NUTRITIONAL CONSULTANT THEN COME IN TO GO OVER MY FOOD JOURNAL. I HAD BEEN SEEING KELLY FOR SEVEN MONTHS BEFORE THIS TIME DUE TO MY STRICT GAME I HAD TO TACKLE WITH THE INSURANCE COMPANY TO GET APPROVED. SHE ALSO IS A WONDERFUL PERSON!! SHE WILL BE WITH THE PATIENT FOR A LONG TIME!! THANK GOODNESS SHE IS AN AWESOME PERSON!!
THEN, THERE IS ANOTHER WONDERFUL PERSON ON HIS STAFF...CHRISTINE. CHRISTINE IS THE REFERRAL SPECIALIST. WHICH MEANS SHE KNOWS EVERYTHING ABOUT INSURANCE. SHE WAS THE ONE THAT GOT ME APPROVED ON THE FIRST TRY WITH MY INSURANCE. I DIDN'T HAVE TO APPEAL THE ANSWER. YEAH!!!!!! IF I HAVE A QUESTION I ASK HER AND SHE THEN GOES TO DR. SCHOEN. WE HAVE SPENT MANY MINUTES ON THE PHONE TOGETHER!! SHE KNOWS HER SHIT!!
OVERALL- MY EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN AWESOME!! IT HELPS THAT YOUR DR. HAS A GREAT STAFF TO TAKE CARE OF ALL THE OTHER STUFF!!!!
THANK YOU DR. SCHOEN AND STAFF!!!!!!!!!:)
I met Dr. Schoen during the investigation phase of my journey. He conducts a monthly seminar on the Roux N Y (RNY) Bariatric surgery at the University of Colorado Hospital in Denver. Dr. Schoen is very comfortable with presentation and very confident in his skills as a surgeon. He has an excellent staff.
I found Dr. Schoen to be even more knowledgeable that I first thought as time progressed. He is very willing to share knowledge and make sure that his patients are thoroughly informed.
I haven't found anything about Dr. Schoen that I do not like.
Future patients should start by attending his free seminar and make their own decisions about him.
Aftercare is HUGE with Dr. Schoen and his staff. They remain involved in the patients' journey for life. The aftercare program consists of Bariatric support groups and regularly scheduled office visits (do not expect a 15 minute once over - my normal visit usually lasts an hour and a half).
Dr. Schoen personally discussed the benefits and risks with my wife and I. He fully answered any questions we had and made sure that we were comfortable with our decision.
Dr. Schoen is probably the best surgeon I have ever encountered. I give him and "OUTSTANDING" rating.
Surgical competence is huge but bedside manner assists in the healing process. Dr. Schoen has both and gives you the impression that he has all the time in the world for you.
