Dr Meilahn was always available to me. He came in to the emergency room personally to remove my drain when I was having pain. He calls me at home to check on me and always has the time to answer questions. He is very busy working at a busy hospital and teaching residents, but never makes me feel like I have to jump through hoops to get a hold of him. He has never taken more that 10 minutes to call me back when I page him. He is a perfectionist with a good bedside mannor and I have not regretted my choice in surgeons for a single second. He is constantly checking on my hydration level and has mailed me a prescription for iron when my labs stated they were low. His secretary Ms Miller is excellent and gets everything I need scheduled. She handled all my insurance requirements and gets me in to see him when I need to. I would highly recommend him and have recommended him to others. If me or any member of my family ever needed GI surgery I would go to him. I truly have no negative comments about him or his staff. I have never had a problem.

Dr. Meilahn was very helpful with letting me know the pros and cons of the surgery. His staff was also very helpful with the process of getting approval. I especially like the fact that he gives you a list of patients who he performed the surgery on in the last few months. I don't really have anything negative to say.

Dr. Meilahn was great. Pleasant, friendly professional and very obviously knowledgeable. He answered all my questions in an un-hurried manner and made me feel totally at ease. It was well worth the nearly 6 week wait to get an appointment to see him. He does have requirements that I have to fulfill prior to being scheduled, but I am expecting a February date. His staff, Nyeesha, was amazing! The girl definitely knew her stuff. By the time I was done seeing the doc, the entire office had emptied except her and I. Keep in mind this is the Friday before Christmas, and no one could blame her for wanting to get me out the door. But that was not the case, she also took her time and answered all my questions. Overall, I have to rate this experience a 10!!

I loved my surgeon and would recommend him to anyone. Dr. John Meilahn was the best doctor I have ever met and is one of the most caring ones as well. He explained everything before the surgery and then again before going into the operating room. If there was anything that I needed pre-op or while in the hospital is was there and willing to make me as comfortable as possible. He is very personable and understanding. If you live in the Philadelphia area and are considering having this surgery done, go to Dr. Meilahn for your consultation and all of your questions and concerns will be answered. As far as his staff goes, they are just as caring and supportive as he is. Aftercare is a very important thing to my doctor. He wants to make sure that you are certain about everything before you leave the hospital to start on your own at home. He keeps a very structured diet for you to follow but allows you to explore different foods on your own. Both Dr. Meilahn's surgical competence and bedside manners are excellent. This is because he CARES about his patients. I am so glad that I had this doctor perform the surgery that is going to change my life!

My first impression of Dr. M was he was very serious but warmed up easily. I e-mailed him and he called me at work the minute he got my e-mail. Very cool. My choices in Phila for the Lap were scarce, but my reg doc told me not to consider anything else but the lap, He told me Dr. Meilahn was his teacher in Med School and he was very thorough as a surgeon. I have a read a bit about him, he has a lot of experience with advanced gastric surgeries so that is encouraging. I know Temple U Hospital has very high standards. My first appt with him is May 9th. His admin. asst. Nyeesha is very sweet to talk to, she remembered my name right away only after 2 phone calls there.

He was very informative on our first phone call and was serious about the risks and the diet post - op. I felt good the moment I spoke to him.

met The surgeon - yesterday. I was impressed. he drew pictures for me and my hubby and explained everything. I felt totally at ease thinking about him doing his thing. He told me he has never had a case with a leak. He has lots of experience using the laproscope on patients with a variety of stomach and esophogus problems as well as gastric bypasses. He explained all the risks, normal recovery times, post op diet. Answered all my questions and my husband's, as well as told me not to hesitate to call if I had anymore questions. he was really fab. Right now I can't think of any negatives. I would give him an A on our first meeting.

From Surgery to first post op visit, Dr. Meilahn has been attentive and extremely caring. He came to see me every chance he had between surgeries while I was in the hospital. His residents/students were very nice and visited me often as well for him. Every E-mail I have sent him he has responded ASAP with info or suggestions. On my first post-op visit to get my drain out he was really pleasant and answered all my questioned and seemed pleased with my progress. The only thing I can say negative is I did have to wait for him, but he was in emergency surgery so that was understandable. I would reccommend him to anyone in the Phila area considering this surgery.

Dr. Meilahn and his team were extremely helpful in my first consultation. They explained everything in detail without talking down to me, was very serious about letting me know the risks and side effects and in being sure I was clear about the life-altering step this surgery will be for me. So far, I am very pleased with him.
