My first impression of him? He's looks So young. But he was very nice and I really like the way he goes over everything and offers time for questions. He isn't in a hurry to get you in to surgery. I like that he wants you to take time and be sure this is the step you want to take. I will add more as I progress with the program.
He's very soft spoken. He covered every aspect of the surgery I could possibly have questions about. After the second visit he seemed to loosen up a little. His staff have a very structured process they follow before and after surgery. I felt very comfortable in their care. I would highly recommend their program.
As a medical professional and as a patient, I am very impressed with Dr. Mecenas. He has a very thorough pre-op program, and has a calm, devoted manner. His office staff is attentive, especially Rhonda in her efforts to handle coordination of testing, insurance approvals, etc.
First visit is no less than 3 hours long, watching a video, an hour meeting and examination with the physician's assistant, and an hour meeting with Dr. Mecenas in which he explains the procedures, using power point presentation, and addresses all questions, etc.
Dr. Mecenas specializes in laproscopic bariatric surgeries. He is selective in terms of the patients he will operate on. He has a support group of both pre-op and post-op patients that all sing his praises.
I would recommend Dr. Mecenas and staff to anyone in our area considering WLS.
Approaching my 1 year post-op anniversary on July 15, 2004. I am so glad I had RNY-proximal WLS! No regrets! My bloodwork is normal thus far every 3 months. Dr. Mecenas and staff continue to be supportive, answer my questions and even my bump in the road, having my gall bladder removed in late April 2004, I continue to lose weight and feel better than ever. I look forward to a healthy life at 52 for the first time since I was age 21. Our local support group is active and makes a difference for all pre-op educational and post-op sharing of info. Dr. M. has been thorough in follow-up and his staff working diligently with post-ops to get support group in place in Fall 2003.
I am 10 months post-op as of 5/15/2004 and my aftercare continues to be excellent. I have lost 108 pounds and still am losing to reach my goals (244/136/118)
Dr. Mecenas has been wonderful in my aftercare since WLS on July 15, 2003. Attentive to all my questions and concerns, readily available and easily accessible. He was very personable, answered all our questions and spent a full hour with my husband and myself to fully go over the options available.
Second meeting for final approval has been great, can't wait for the RNY.
Staff was very congenial and patient with my questions.
Very thorough with exam and with what lies ahead for me. He and team will be there for the whole nine yards!
Aftercare is vital and they have a comprehensive one in place.
Risks were very well explained.
I think Dr. Mecenas is a great asset to our area medical professionals.
Time will tell, but I believe it will be an outstanding experience.
Dr M is a great guy, very imformative and kind. He is very understanding of the neeeds of his patients and knows what we are going through. I also have to mention his assistant Rhonda, she is so sweet and kind. She will go to bat for you against the insurance companys. I highly recommend this office for anyone looking for bariatric surgery or even just a consult.
first immpression of Dr. M was that he knew excatly what he was talking about and wanted to be sure that i knew what to expect. I d have to say that Rhonda his Assistant has been an angel. she sent all info to insurance and got it approved for me she is fast too. all i know is i would go crazy with her job. i call her almost everyday to update her. i'm pretty sure she knows who i am by now. Dr. M and the WLS "team" in ithaca really care about you and your concerns. They are really careful to make sure that the surgery is the right thing for you. and that you undeerstand the lifelong commintment it is. i was informed of all the risk and feel very comfortable with Dr M. as my surgeon. So far everything is excellent. The only thing that i can honestly say that bothers me is..... the 3 hour drive to see him. but that was my choice.
