I am very happy with my choice of surgeon, Dr. John Dietrick. He found a hiatal hernia I didn't know that I had, repaired it during my Lapband surgery, and I didn't have any problems with either procedure. I did stay overnight in the hospital for observation because of the hernia repair, otherwise, I would probably have been able to come home the same day as my surgery. Dr. Dietrick is calm, professional, personable, and has a good sense of humor. I always feel comfortable with his bedside manner when he does my post-surgery band adjustments. My only complaint would be with his Weight Loss Surgery Center's pre-surgery information classes. There was conflicting post-surgery lifestyle instructions between their video and written guidelines, concerning number of meals to eat on a daily basis. However, his staff explained to me the pamphlets are updated as soon as new information surfaces, and the video was slightly out of date. The other issue surgery candidates may want to ask about is follow-up appointment scheduling. My surgeon, as well as many others, is on-call during the week, so I did have to make last minute appointment changes a couple times. Dr. Dietrick has done hundreds of lapband and gastric bypass procedures, and he also does other types of ER surgery for University Community Hospital, that are not related to his Weight Loss Surgery Center patients. I did some investigation before I chose Dr. Dietrick, and found out he is board certified, with an excellent reputation.
I thought Doc Dietrick wouldn't understand anything about me; he was thin and it didn't seem like he'd know anything about being overweight. Boy, was I wrong. He is intelligent, made me feel at ease, and was very funny too. He answered all of my questions before I made my final decision, and wanted to be sure I had all my insecurities out of the way before moving to the next step of the surgical process. Doc Dietrick's office staff was very professional and courteous, and was very friendly as well. They are like family to me now. They know me by first name, and are always asking about my family. rnAnyone who goes in to see Doc Dietrick should know that he is genuinely concerned about you as a patient, as well as a person. He cares about your well being, and you have to be honest with him every step of the way because of this. If you start to go off your diet, TELL HIM, so that he can help you. He can help you only if you are honest with him.rnThis goes for before, during, and after care. rnOverall, I am very happy with Doc Dietrick, and I would recommend him to anyone and everyone who is looking for a weight loss surgeon.
WOW!!!! is all I can say. He was the nicest doctor I have ever met. He made me feel so comfortable and he seems to really care about his patients. He even recommended some primary care doctors to me. I would definetely refer him to anyone. He's AWESOME!!!!!! The staff was great from greeter to dietician they were wonderful I love them.
Dr. Dietrick has been the most helpful surgeon/doctor that I have ever met. He is extremely forthcoming with information and really takes the time to understand your sitaution rather than assuming that all patients are the same. His office, "Wish Center" out of Tampa was very comfortable. What I mean by this: the seats were larger, the tables longer, the bathroom is designed for plus size individuals. The entire staff is so great and most have been through the prodedure. During your first consultation, you meet with several indivduals, all in an attempt to judge where you are at in life. All this allows them to create goals that you must meet prior to your pre-op appointment. And believe me, they will go through every single piece of paperwork looking for something that isnt complete. This scruitiny allows them the ability to judge how dedicated you are to the process and after life. I wouldnt hesitate to recommed him to anyone thinking about taking that next step. Although I felt as if the Insurance coordinator dropped the ball in an effort to get my paperwork present timely and my pre-op appointment was rescheduled 2 times (which was emotionally upsetting, waiting by the phone for "that phone call"), I was approved within 2 months and now everything is happening so fast! I would certainly rate him and his staff an 11 on the scale of 1-10.
Doctor Dietrick is a very serious man. He takes the WLS very serious.
No
The staff was very helpful and professional.
I needed my surgery dated pushed up and he said NO because he didnt think I was ready, I really respect that.
Do like he says or you will have to find another surgeon.
No that much, he could do a little more.
He explained everything.
9+
surgical competence, no bedside manner
When he first walked in he was all business. He was upfront without me asking about the complications and his track record. I was able to get him laugh and I really liked that. I got to see that he was human. Alot of doctors that I have dealt with don't seem to like to show their personality, but with Dr. Dietrick I was able to pull it out. I needed to see that.
The staff was GREAT! I couldn't have asked for anything better.
They have a wonderful aftercare program. It was really stressed to me the importance of one. They have their own aftercare program that you must pay for. It is $1,850.00, a small price to pay for the information that will be available after the surgery.
I will update more after the surgery.
