Dr. De Barros and staff were extremely friendly at my consultation. They are very thorough. I had more tests than I expected. Everything from a written test to an EKG. Other tests were: blood, urine, bp, pulmonary, sonogram of gallbladder and finally a chest x-ray. It was obvious they want to be extremely careful. I have one more physical test to undergo (tube in the esophogas) and of course my psych eval. I felt very comfortable with the entire staff and look forward to what the future possibilities may be.

Dr. De Barros is a wonderful sugeon. He is friendly and very funny which put me at ease right away. Often doctors, especially surgeons, can be somewhat intimidating but Dr. De Barros is very down to earth and warm. He covered extensively the risks of the surgery and what would be required of me before and after sugery. I watched a video about the surgery and then he came in and went over everything with me and answered my questions. I can honestly say I do not have anything negative to say about him. He is an extremely competent and thorough surgeon and his bedside manner is wonderful. I had no worries going into surgery because I was extremely confident that he would take care of me. rnHe has an extensive before and aftercare program which is wonderful. The program before surgery helped to be properly prepared for the changes to my body after surgery. The aftercare program is equally as helpful. His staff is equally as wonderful; everyone was very helpful and always friendly. I still call and talk to the dietician all the time with questions. His office is nicely equipped with furniture for large people.

I was going through the wishcenter last year however, my husband became very ill. I was unable to complete the program. At that time Amy Kohler was going to be my surgeon so when I got started back up this summer(July05) I was devastated that she was no longer with them at the tempe location. However, I met with Dr. John DeBarros and he is awesome. My husband and I felt very confident with him. He answered all of our questions and really put our minds at ease. He is very knowledgable and very strict. The wishcenter puts you through an extensive program of eating right and exercising, this is a great way to start your transition after surgery. I have to do eight weeks of writing in a food and exercise journal as well as two weeks prior to surgery drinking only protein shakes to shrink the liver so it won't get in the way of the procedure. I have my next visit on Aug. 31st which is just around the corner and can't wait to find out when my surgery date is.
