Medical Director of the Institute for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Board Certified, General Surgery Fellow of the American College of Surgeons Member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons Dr. Jefferson R. Vaughan is highly regarded among his peers for his technical skills, excellent outcomes and low complication rates. On staff at Jupiter Medical Center since 1995, Dr. Vaughan started the bariatric surgery program in 2000 with an extensive background in weight loss surgery. Dr. Vaughan trained under Dr. Alan Wittgrove, pioneer of the Laparoscopic approach of Gastric Bypass Surgery and the first surgeon to perform a Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass in the world. Since then, Dr. Vaughan has performed thousands of Laparoscopic Gastric Bypasses and has trained 36 surgical teams from around the world in his techniques. After graduating from Birmingham Southern College, Dr. Vaughan attended the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. He completed an internship and residency in General Surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami, Florida. Dr. Vaughan is proficient in both open incision and Laparoscopic weight loss surgery. In addition to bariatric surgery, he performs an entire range of general surgery, including gallbladder removal, hernia repairs, heartburn surgery, colon and intestinal surgery, stomach surgery and skin cancer surgery.
