Jamie Ponce De Leon Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.
First impression - due to the language barrier he seemed a bit distant. But he was very professional and all-business. He took the surgery very seriously. My impression of him did not change - he knew his job, did it well, and cares for his patients. His staff was friendly and caring. The language barrier was a bit of a problem. There was nothing I didn't like about him. Future patients should seriously consider taking a person who speaks spanish along on the trip. An english speaking person was not always available. He emphasized after care a lot but whenever I called I just got the answering machine. I'd leave a message ---sometimes the call was returned, sometimes not. He does not have a structured aftercare program, which I could have used. Plus it's been difficult to find a doctor here in Texas to do fills as I don't have the funds to go back to Mexico for them. The risks of surgery were researched thoroughly prior to even going to Mexico, so once I told him that I was fully aware of the risks, he did not go into further detail. I would rate Dr. Ponce as a great doctor, a bit lacking in bedside manner, but only due to the language barrier.

Dr. Ponce de Leon didn't speak much english, therefore he was quite but he talked through another doctor. He asked the normal question doctors asked and I felt comfortab le with him. The staff was wonderful they tended to everything, great bunch of people. I cant say there was anything I didn't like about them. The Doctor's and staff at Bajanor Hospital were down to earth and a caring staff. After care to them was important. They explained why and what to do once I return to the States. They do have an aftercare program but it wouldn't suit me since I do not live in Mexico. Yes, they did address the risk of surgery. I would rate the overall experience, Doctors and staff a 10++++.
Surgical compatence and bedside manner both were great.
