Dr. A definitley makes a great first impression. He is the most gracious and kind doctor I have ever met.....and I'm an RN so I've met lots of doctors. From the minute I walked into his office it was all about the patients. He took us into his office one at a time and thoroughly explained the procedure and what we should expect. He reaslly put me at ease. His partner is equally as gracious and kind. The other patient went into talk to him first and then Pricilla, his nurse, took her up to her room to get her started on blood work etc. After my meeting with him he personally took my luggage and took me up to the room. On the way up to the room I mnet his father. I'm fortunate that I can speak Spanish and his father asked me where I was from, was I nervous etc. He was also very gracious and put me at ease. Dr. A's staff is awesome. Rosy was right there at the airport waiting for me, and we had wonderful conversations on the way to Eagle Pass, HIs nurse Priscilla is also awesome. I felt very well cared for. The hospital is a tad old, but spotless. I was very impressed with the sterility procedures they use. The gourney that you leave your room on does not go into the OR. You are transferred through a horizontal window to another gourney that remnains in the sterile environment. All the nurses and the anesthesioligis were very attentive talking to me and explaining what they were doing. None of the nurses spoke English, but I was able to communicate with the in Spanish so I didn't have any trouble. But they are so attentive to your needs the language barrier wouldn't matter. They kept me on pain meds without my asking. Dr. does have a strict post-up protocol, which is very well explained. The success of this protocol shows in the fact that he has a very low leakage rate. I think surgical competence is probably the ost imnportant, but the bedside manner plays an important part in your overall well being. Fortunatley Dr. A. has both the competence and bedside manner. I would reccomend him to anywone.
Dr. Guillermo AlvarezrnMy first impression of him was, very nice guy. He answered all my questions. He told me what was going to happen step by step. He showed me both bands and gave me info. and then I chose the band I wanted.rnHis driver that picked us up was Rosie. A very nice girl. She showed up right on time and drove us over the border and back after surgery. No problems. rnI would tell anyone that is going to have this surgery in Mexico to go to Doctor Alvarez. He was a great doctor. He has an english speaking nurse that was just for me. But all the other nurses were very nice too. I was in very good hands. I had a hienal hernia and he fixed it during surgey. It had been giving me problems for a while. I was unsure before I went to Mexico, I thought all the good things a read about the doctor were to good to be true. I was wrong, they were true. I'm a big fan now and will recomend. Dr. Alvarez to anyone and everyone. He is a great Doctor. rnThe only thing negative is I live to faraway to go back for my fills. I will have to go to another Doctor.
I did alot of research about weightloss surgeries and surgeons. I found Dr Alvarez had the happiest post op patients and the fewest if any complications. I was pretty confident with my decision in Dr A but I knew the minute I met Dr Alarez that I had made the right choice. He is the only Dr I have known who treats you like a real person not just a number. My PCP here in the U.S. said I was the best looking 7 day post op patient that he had ever seen and said Dr A must be a very talented surgeon. He was leary about me going to Mexico before the surgery but said he would like to refer some of his patients to Dr A now. I'm extremely happy with my decision and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Dr A was great, Susan was great, Rosie was great and Priscilla was great.
Dr. Alvarez is so sweet. He genuinely cares about his patients. I was very nervous going into the OR and he told me not to worry, that he'd treat me as if I was his sister. That was really comforting. I felt good just a few days post-op and I'm sure that has a lot to do with having such a skilled surgeon. Susan was wonderful as well. She called and e-mailed the day I got home and has been so helpful throughout the whole process. She is always quick and easy to contact and can give you answers to any questions you have. The hospital he works out of is old fashioned but it is very clean and I was really happy with his new suites. They have a computer with internet access and a phone that you are able to use the entire time you are there. I had a really good experience with the Endobariatric team.
My first impression of Alvarez was that he was very professional as well as completely sincere. His office staff went above and beyond the call to answer the many questions and in a very timely fashion. Even tho Alvarez has many new patients, never did that effect his answering questions promptly.rnrnTo be totally honest, I cannot find any negatives with the doctor.rnFuture patients should be completely at ease in using his services even tho he is in Mexico.rnrnAftercare was discussed in detail with printouts to use to follow up later with emphasis on the importance.rnrnAlvarez has a very detailed and rigid aftercare program where there is no misunderstanding on what you should do.rnThe risks of surgery were explained.rnOverall Alverez would rate a 10 and I am not exaggerating....I was extremely confident with Alvarez and his assistant surgeon, both would be rated 100% in bed side manner.rnrnrnOverall very pleased with procedure.....rnrnrnRoxana
Dr.Alvarez is the best, plus his supporting group-Susan,Rosie,and nurses are great and very helpful. The whole experience was cool with no complains.I was a bit leary about MEXICO myself, but after talking to Susan about 10 times ,everything work out.If anyone out there is considering the sleeve please consider DR.ALVAREZ..
I must say WOW when talking about Dr. G. Alvarez. This Dr. is truley amazing. I met Dr. A the morning of my surgery 05/14/07. He is so friendly, easy to talk to/with. He discussed what he is going to do. I had a prior surgery back in 99 for a hiatal hernia. That procedure was called a Nissen Fundiplication. That was an open incision. Dr. A explained how he will perform the VSG on me. It was time to go into the OR. I was talking to him as he was scrubbing up and preparing for surgery. I was thinking to myself, theres no Dr. in the US that would do what Dr. A is doing. Dr. A is so pleasant, very personable, very compassionate, and extremely professional. after surgery, he helped me get off the gurney and back into bed. He came in several times to check on me and all was well. When I woke, I wasn't sure if surgery was even done. I had NO PAIN AT ALL. I had to pull my gown up to convince myself something had been done. The day afetr surgery, 05/15/07 was my 42nd B-day. Dr. A came in with balloons and wished me a happy birthday and talked with me for a bit. Again, No Dr. in the US would do that with a patient unless your insurance was going to pay. I feel a great connection with Dr. A. He has certainly changed my life for the better. My advice to future patients, go with confidence. Dr. Alvarez is a GREAT surgeon. He will treat you extremely well. I would do it all over again with Dr. A. Feel free to contact me if you ahve any questions regarding my journey in this. I have gone from 330lbs to 267lbs in 12 weeks. Dr. A. keep up the good work. This is certainly your calling. UPDATE: It is 2/29/08 and I have lost 102lbs and feel great! It's been 9 months and thanks to Dr. A I will be alive in 30 years. I am anxious to see Dr A again next month in San Antonio. He's AWESOME!
